Intel’s 13th gen Raptor Lake is nearly here with thousands likely looking to upgrade their CPUs. It marks the 13th generation of Intel Core processors, succeeding the 12th-generation Alder Lake chips released in 2021.

Intel Raptor Lake is the codename for the up-and-coming 13th generation of Intel Core processors based on a similar hybrid architecture (LITTLE.big) as Alder Lake. Intel is still using the same P-core and E-core architecture as Alder Lake.

We’re going to provide everything we know so far on Raptor Lake, including the release date, price, and specifications. We’ll even go to speculate on some other more exciting points too so you can decide if upgrading to the 13th Gen series is worth it.

The days draw nearer to the release of 13th-generation CPUs. If you’re interested in another one of Intel’s 13th-generation CPUs, check them out here:

Intel’s 13th gen is said to be less of a major update and more minor improvements over Alder Lake, and a chance for Intel to iron out some issues and inefficiencies that LITTLE.big implementation brought to the table.

Based on this, we predict that the 13th generation of CPUs will do well in the sense that they will hold their ground in single-core workloads, but still fall victim to the mighty AMD regarding multi-core performance.

Intel 13th gen Raptor Lake is said to be releasing a few weeks after AMD’s Zen 4 CPUs, which puts the release of 13th gen into the end of September/beginning of October territory.

Intel 13th gen release date

During Intel’s Innovation event 2022, CEO, Pat Gelsinger, revealed the Raptor Lake will officially launch on October 20th, 2022. That will be for both the UK and US regions.

13th Gen Intel Core desktop “K” processors and the Intel Z790 chipset will all become available at that time – including boxed processors, motherboards and desktop system sales.

“We are raising the standards of PC performance once again with our latest generation of flagship 13th Gen Intel Core Processors,” said Michelle Johnston Holthaus, executive vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group at Intel.

“The 13th Gen Intel Core family is the latest example of how Intel is enabling amazing experiences to happen on the PC – at scale and across all PC product segments. Combine this with an industry-leading partner ecosystem and new solutions like Intel Unison, and together we are showing the world what’s truly possible with the PC experience going forward.”

Intel 13th gen release time prediction

We predict the Intel 13th gen CPU launch will be like any other, releasing at the usual time of 2PM BST / 9AM EDT / 6AM PST / 3PM CEST / 8AM CDT.

This is just a prediction, of course, and even if we are correct, some retailers lag behind with product listings. the good news here is that most major retailers are already listing the Intel 13th gen SKUs ready for launch.

Should you buy Intel 13th gen on release?

So far, Intel’s 13th gen has had some glowing reviews from early impressions and leaks.

The 12th gen wasn’t bad but there was no real reason to upgrade if you were already rocking a Ryzen 5000 chip.

Well, now we are at a crossroads once again where no matter your path you are going to need to invest some cash but which should it be?

The good news is that you won’t need to upgrade to a Z790 motherboard to use the 13th gen, so for those with a Z690, you won’t need to rebuild your system just yet.

What Intel 13th gen SKUs will we see on the release date?

The following Intel 13th-gen processors are being released on October 20th and will be available to buy from most retailers:

Stock tends to be a bit more forgiving with CPUs, however, with the power we are seeing, they could be snapped up sharpish.

Intel 13th gen specs

Raptor Lake will be built upon Intel 7, which is Intel’s in-house 10nm manufacturing process. Raptor Lake is built based upon the LGA 1700 socket, meaning Intel might be keeping its promise to keep LGA 1700 relevant for a few years.

Here are the key specs as per the Intel website:

The 13th Gen Intel Core desktop processors empower users with leading-edge performance and experiences across gaming, content creation and work, with several new and improved features including:

  • Intel® Adaptive Boost Technology and Thermal Velocity Boost opportunistically boosts processor clock frequencies based on power and thermal headroom during a given workload. Available in Intel Core i9 unlocked SKUs.
  • More E-cores across Intel Core i5, i7, i9 power a big leap in multi-threaded performance and better multi-tasking/mega-tasking experience for users.
  • PCIe Gen 5.0 support, with as many as 16 lanes off the processor.
  • Increased memory support to DDR5-5600 and DDR5-5200, while maintaining DDR4 compatibility.
  • Up to 2x the L2 cache and increased L3 cache.

The 13th gen Raptor Lake CPUs will continue support for DDR5 memory, despite the issues 12th-generation CPUs have faced with the new RAM standard.

Final word

The Intel 13th gen release date is nearly here and we couldn’t be more excited.

There’s not much out there in terms of news regarding Intel’s 13th generation of CPUs, but we can assure you that the fight for the top dog between AMD and Intel will continue. Intel’s Raptor Lake is promising some pretty strong things, but will it hold up? Or will it flop as the 12900KS did?

We will update information in this article as more up-to-date Raptor Lake info comes to light. We hope you found what you were looking for in this Intel 13th gen Raptor Lake article.
