The Oculus Quest 2 has gained a deserved reputation as one of the most accessible and easy-to-use VR headsets out there. Given its standalone nature and attractive price point, we can totally see why. However, every tech product has its foibles and if your Oculus Quest 2 is acting wayward, you might have to factory reset it to make it behave.

If you factory reset your Oculus Quest 2, it will return the exact state it was when you took it out of the box, so you’ll have to go through the rigmarole of setting it up, signing in, and adding your Steam games, among other things. This means we only recommend a factory reset as a last resort. How to back up Oculus Quest 2 data
If you haven’t already, you’ll want to enable Oculus cloud backup. This is accomplished by the following steps: Quick Settings > Settings > System > Backup > Toggle backup to ‘On’. Assuming the Oculus Quest 2 isn’t misbehaving badly enough to allow you to do this, you can now proceed and factory reset your Oculus Quest 2.

Assuming your Oculus quest 2 can still connect to the app, this is the simplest way to do the factory reset. Here’s how to do it.

Make sure the Oculus Quest 2 is charged, then open the app.

Navigate to ‘Menu’ then go to ‘Devices’ and select ‘Quest 2’.

After a couple of minutes your Oculus Quest 2 will reset to factory settings, allowing you to begin again.

If you’re Quest 2 is being totally uncooperative, and won’t connect to the app, you can force a reset on the headset itself, here’s how.

Make sure the headset is charged
If you haven’t already, make sure the Quest 2 has enough charge to complete the reset process.
Just to be safe, leave the headset on charge for at least 45 minutes as this will ensure it doesn’t die partway through the factory reset process.

With the headset powered off, put the headset on and hold the volume-down and power button until you see the boot screen.

Using, the volume buttons, navigate down to the ‘Factory Reset’ option and select it with the power button.
You Oculus Quest 2 will now factory reset in a manner identical to the app process mentioned earlier, from here you are free to start over and setup the Quest 2 once again.
