John Lewis has once again lifted the lid on the retail price for one of LG’s new C2 series OLED TVs. This time it’s the hugely anticipated LG C2 42 – the world’s first 42 inch OLED TV. The C2 series of OLED TVs were announced back in January and look set to impress by bringing a plethora of high-performance features and specifications to the table. However, recent pricing could see it hit shelves for much higher than we first thought.

While LG has yet to announce an official price (or release date) for the LG C2, UK buyers already have the option to pre order the TV over at John Lewis. The TV looks set to retail for £1,399 according to the post, making it the same price as the LG C2 48 – adding some speculation to its pre-release pricing.

LG C2 42 inch price leak and pre order

LG’s new C2 range is the follow-on from the hugely popular C1 OLED TV lineup. The C1 range became a fan favorite thanks to its reasonable pricing, excellent picture quality, and gaming-tailored features.

The new LG C2 looks set to bring all the same features and benefits as its predecessor to the table, including additional extras that include higher peak brightness, a more advanced internal processor, and a shiny new remote.

The LG C2 42 was spotted recently over at John Lewis’ site, which showcases a price tag of $1,399. While this has sparked excitement amongst potential buyers, it does add some confusion to the equation as the LG C2 48 has been marked at the same price.

If you’re a UK buyer, you can head over to John Lewis now and pre order the LG C2 42 inch TV – bagging yourself a set of free LG Tone Free HBS-FN4 true wireless Bluetooth in-ear headphones. Again, while no official release date has been announced by LG, John Lewis is promising a 5-week turnaround for pre ordering the TV today. That means you could be receiving this excellent TV by the end of March/ start of April.

However, due to the current issues we’ve been experiencing with new product launches, we’ll take that with a pinch of salt for now.

Why are the LG C2 42 and 48 the same price?

One of the big questions to arise after the recent price leaks for the LG C2 42″ and 48″ is; why are they the same price?

Before John Lewis leaked prices for the TVs, many insiders speculated a £200-300 difference between the two – with the large being the more expensive. However, that wasn’t the case. Both TVs look set to retail for £1,399 (according to said pre order pages) and it’s leaving many buyers confused.

One theory suggests that due to the shortage in 42-inch panels, LG feel like people will pay that price regardless. It’s also the ‘world’s first 42 inch OLED’ – which in itself will likely add a price premium to the product.

Of course, John Lewis’ pricing could also be wrong, with an official price or release date yet to be announced by LG themselves.

Luckily, there is some good news to take away from this whole thing, and that’s if you pre order today, you can get the LG C2 42 in 4 weeks.

LG C2 specifications

Ever since its announcement back in January, the LG C2 has been headline news for most TV enthusiasts. The new lineup of OLED TVs looks likely to be one of the best gaming TVs of 2022, featuring a new set of high-performance features that should deliver a much great visual experience when compared to yesteryear’s LG C1.

Unfortunately, the LG C2 42 inch won’t feature the new Evo OLED panel that was once restricted to the flagship G1 lineup. Instead, it’ll utilize a more advanced OLED panel that features slightly better peak brightness and greater 4K upscaling – thanks to the new Alpha A9 Gen 5 processor it utilizes.

Additionally, the 42 and 48 variants will also feature the same composite fibre materials in its construction, making it a far lighter product than the 2021 series. This will not only make the unboxed process a lot easier, but it’ll also help with the VESA wall mounting process too.

As you’d expect, the gaming-tailored 42 inch C2 will feature 4K @120Hz gameplay support for both PS5 and Xbox Series X systems. It will offer a number of HDMI 2.1 ports which all feature the full 48Gbps bandwidth.
