Samsung Galaxy S23 cameras vs Google Pixel 7 cameras
In the battle between the Samsung Galaxy S22 cameras and the Google Pixel 7 cameras, The S23 just about takes the lead, but the Pixel 7 still has advantages in certain areas.
The S23 has superior optical zoom thanks to its additional telephoto lens, plus can shoot 8K 30FPS footage on its main camera, but the Pixel 7 has better 4K video recording on its rear camera due to the seamless transitioning between wide and ultrawide lenses, as well as having a software feature that allows it to better capture natural skin tones. Shooting photographs or video in low light conditions is better on the S23 though thanks to a host of software and AI-assisted updates. Astro Hyperlapse also makes it easier to shoot photos/footage of the stars.
Samsung didn’t much change the base specs of the camera hardware for the main S23 compared to the S22. The device has the same triple-camera setup leading with the 50MP primary sensor, accompanied by the 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP telephoto sensors. The Galaxy S22 had a 3x optical capacity, so the Galaxy S23 keeps this as well. The front camera on the Galaxy S23 however has been bumped up to 12MP from the older 10MP sensor.
Unlike the Galaxy S23, Pixel 7 comes with a dual-camera setup. The Google smartphone uses a 50MP primary sensor alongside a 12MP ultrawide sensor. Unfortunately, there’s no telephoto sensor; Google kept it only for the Pro model. Otherwise, the Pixel 7 enjoys all of Google’s photo computational technologies, even giving the iPhone 14 run for its money. The Pixel 7 also has a few new features, such as the Magic Erase, which erases objects and people from images using intelligent AI; the newly added Photo Unblur feature repairs blurry photos; and the Active Stabilization to stabilize videos.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Google Pixel 7 processor
In terms of performance, the Galaxy S23 comes equipped with more horsepower than the Pixel 7. The Google Pixel 7 uses Google’s Tensor G2 chipset, which is excellent in its own right, but in a synthetic benchmark, it fell behind the Galaxy S22’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
For example, the Geekbench scores for the Pixel 7 are 1,054 and 3,021, single-core and multicore, respectively. The scores of the Galaxy S22 were 1,204 and 3,248. The Pixel 7 clearly lost, but the gap is small. However, we suspect the gap in performance scores will increase with the new Qualcomm chip in the S23.
Samsung will use a souped-up version of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the upcoming Galaxy S23, a considerable upgrade over last year’s chipset, meaning Google’s chipset will fall even further behind in terms of performance.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Google Pixel 7 storage & memory
The Google Pixel 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S23 significantly differ in camera and performance categories. However, the devices offer identical storage and memory options.
The Pixel 7 offers only an 8GB memory variant, and rumors suggest the Galaxy S23 will get the same treatment from Samsung.
In terms of storage, the Pixel 7 offers a 128GB and a 256GB variant, and the Galaxy S23 will offer similar variants, according to recent leaks.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Google Pixel 7 screen & Size
Regarding display quality, the Galaxy S23 has a clear advantage over the Pixel 7. The S23 has a 6.1-inch AMOLED display, a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate, and better color reproduction. While Pixel 7’s 6.3-inch OLED screen only has a 90Hz fixed refresh rate.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Google Pixel 7 weight & dimensions
Both phones have unique identities in terms of design. The Galaxy is a thin, tall device with narrower aesthetics. It is also lighter than the Pixel 7.
Pixel has a visor-style camera strip on its back, while the Galaxy S23 has a modernized separated camera lens design, which debuted with last year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra.
- Galaxy S23 dimensions: 146.3 x 70.9 x 7.6 mm; Weight & water resistance: 168g, IP68
- Pixel 7 dimensions: 155.6 x 73.2 x 8.7 mm; Weight & water resistance: 197g, IP68
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Google Pixel 7 battery life & charging
Both Pixel 7 and Galaxy S22 have unimpressive battery life. While Google can’t do anything at this moment to improve the Pixel 7’s, Samsung is increasing the battery size from 3,700 mAh to 3,900 mAh on the Galaxy S23, but this is still 10% smaller than Pixel’s 4,355 mAh battery.
However, S23 is expected to gain efficiency from the new Snapdragon chipset. It is still too early to deliver a verdict as to how this will all come together in terms of comparative battery life duration.
The Galaxy S23 has a 25W wired charging speed, which is not much of an upgrade over the Pixel 7’s 21W charging. Both devices have wireless and reverse charging capabilities.
Google Pixel 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S23 : Price
Samsung has confirmed the price of the S23 as starting at $799 for the baseline model of the Galaxy S23.
If it turns out to be accurate, Google still undercuts Samsung with Pixel 7’s $599 price tag – a considerably more affordable offering.

Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Pixel 7 : Final Word
In the battle between Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Pixel 7 smartphones then, the Galaxy S23 has a superior (though slightly smaller) screen, a more powerful processor chip, and is thinner and lighter overall. When it comes to camera technology, the S23 also wins in most areas with its telephoto zoom hardware, superior low light photography and videography, and 30FPS 8K video, though the Pixel 7 still ends up edging ahead in certain areas like natural skin tone photography and seamless video. Storage and memory options are the same across both, and there likely won’t be much difference between battery and charging, however the Pixel 7 is around $200 cheaper, which is quite a big victory in terms of value.
