In the following page, we will compare the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Google Pixel 7 Pro based upon all the info we currently have available.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra release date is nigh, and from what we’ve seen at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event, it looks like it will be a superb high-end premium device, particularly in terms of the improvements made to the camera and photography/videography technology. Although changes are minimal on the Galaxy S23 standard variant, Samsung is changing a lot on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, especially the processor and the camera system.

The upcoming Samsung flagship must however fend off competition, including from the Google Pixel 7 Pro, if it wants the top spot. The Pixel Pro 7 comes with unique camera features, plus has the advantage of being a Google phone, although in many ways it’s inferior to the S23 Ultra (though not in terms of price).

So, without further ado, let’s have these devices face-off and see which one comes out on top.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Pixel 7 Pro cameras

The Ultra variant of the Samsung Galaxy S series has always been regarded as having the best Android smartphone camera due to its stellar image quality, state-of-the-art hardware, and versatility.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra has the same four-sensor camera array on its back as its predecessor, however, Samsung has brought a big change to its primary sensor. The 108MP primary sensor is upgraded to the new 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor. Samsung specially designed this sensor for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The secondary 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto, and 10MP 10 periscope telephoto aren’t getting any changes.

Besides hardware, Samsung is also bringing low-light photography improvements to the S23 Ultra. The company has improved focus and stabilization factors for more detailed and focused photography. It can now also shoot 8K 30FPS footage on its main camera, making it the superior option for amateur filmmakers for all the above reasons.

The cameras on the Google Pixel 7 Pro are good, but they don’t quite match up to the Ultra. The smartphone’s triple camera setup benefits from the company’s legendary computational photography improvements. There’s a 50MP primary sensor on the back, along with a 12MP ultrawide sensor with secondary macro mode and a 48MP periscope sensor with 5x optical zoom.

Both Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Pixel 7 Pro have great camera hardware. But the newer S23 Ultra definitely has the edge over the Pixel 7 Pro overall, and is the better pick for photographers and videographers.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Pixel 7 Pro processor

Samsung is changing the game this year. The Korean tech giant usually releases multiple versions of the S series dedicated to different markets. Usually, Europe gets the version with the Exynos SoC, and the variant with the Snapdragon SoC gets released in the United States. The Exynos variant was not well-received by the series’ fans however, and this year, Samsung is finally eliminating the secondary variant.

All variants of the Galaxy S23 will be getting Qualcomm’s latest, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, but a special upgraded version just for the Galaxy S23 line. Samsung worked with the company to produce an enhanced version of the flagship chipset, which provides better performance and is more efficient.

Pixel 7 Pro is equipped with Google’s latest Tensor G2 chipset. The second-generation Tensor is an excellent chipset but falls behind in benchmark tests against last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. So, after Samsung equips the S23 Ultra with the modified Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Tensor G2 will likely lag even further. This is a clear win for the S23 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Google Pixel 7 Pro storage & memory

In terms of memory, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will come with two variants – 8GB and 12 GB, while the Google Pixel only has a 12GB memory variant.

The storage options are slightly different on these flagship devices. Pixel 7 Pro has a base 128GB variant and goes up to 512GB. But Samsung has eliminated the 128GB variant for the Ultra model. Now, the Galaxy S23 Ultra starts with 256Gb and goes up to 1TB.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Google Pixel 7 Pro screen

In terms of display quality, both devices are great. Google has used a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate for the Pixel 7 Pro. The S23 Ultra has a 6.8-inch panel with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. They are very similar. However, Samsung’s panel is brighter, with 1,750 nits max brightness, compared to Pixel 7 Pro’s 1,500 nits.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Google Pixel 7 Pro size & weight

Both devices have a unique design language. The Galaxy has a squarish design with sharp edges, while Pixel has a traditional style with rounded edges. The rear camera arrangement is also distinctive. Samsung uses a modernized individual camera lens type design, while the Pixel 7 Pro has its legendary visor-style camera arrangement.

In terms of size and weight, if the latest leaks are to be believed regarding the S23 Ultra, the Pixel 7 Pro comes out the lighter and slightly more slimline of the two, though in terms of the dimensions there isn’t much in it.

  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra dimensions: 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9mm, Weight: 233g
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro dimensions: 162.9 x 76.6 x 8.9 mm, Weight: 212g

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Pixel 7 Pro battery & charging

Google’s Pixel 7 Pro is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra has the same. The battery life may still differ however. The battery of the Pixel 7 Pro lasts just over a day, and the S23 Ultra should have similar battery life but the addition of the supposedly more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could bump it up a little further.

In terms of charging, the S23 Ultra takes the win with up to 45W wired charging speed. While the Pixel 7 Pro only provides 23W wired charging. It’s a big gap. Both flagship devices also support wireless and reverse wireless charging features.

Google Pixel 7 Pro vs Galaxy S23 Ultra price

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is one of the most expensive Android devices in the market, with a starting price tag of $1,119, though it starts at 256GB.

This is much more expensive than the Pixel 7 Pro, which is by far the cheapest premium smartphone out there, with a starting price of $899 for the 128GB variant.

In the battle between the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Google Pixel 7 Pro smartphones then, the S23 Ultra comes out on top, or as good as, the Pixel 7 Pro in every area, other than price. Ultimately the Google Pixel 7 Pro is a much less premium phone than what the S23 Ultra is shaping up to be, but given it is $300 cheaper for the starting model (although with less storage), this makes it a much more affordable option worth considering.
