In the current generation of cards, we finally get something a bit more affordable, in that region, we compare the RTX 4060 Ti vs RTX 4060 vs RX 7600. These are aimed at a much more entry-level market than the previous offerings, but they still sit within the mid-range of their respective series. These bring new features and improvements to the more budget-friendly market and so you might be wondering which one to go for.

The RX 7600 sits just below the 4060 Ti in terms of hierarchy comparatively, but they both offer a great match especially with the 4060 coming in to offer another choice. Architecture is key to how GPU functions and what it is built upon. With two options in the same generation, it’s easier to compare the Nvidia cards. However, the AMD Radeon card differs a lot in makeup and is not a straightforward comparison between the two manufacturers.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti in the Ada Lovelace architecture is the AD106-350/351 GPU variant, made with TSMC’s 5nm process and has a die size of 188mm² with 22.9 billion transistors for both 8/16GB cards. For the RTX 4060, you have the AD107-400 GPU variant on the same node as the upper cards. Although with a 159mm² die size that features 18.9 billion transistors in it.

Whilst the AMD Radeon RX 7600 is on the AMD RDNA 3 generation, with the Navi 33 XL GPU inside of it with a die size of 204mm² hosting 13.3 billion transistors. Both of these are the latest architectures that Nvidia and AMD offer respectively. In terms of which is better, Ada Lovelace definitely impresses with DLSS 3 frame generation support, but the RX 7600 fights right back with AI acceleration of its own, as well as 2nd gen ray tracing to more closely, match Nvidia’s strengths.

There are some comparisons to make between the two options. Although some of the options aren’t too comparable, there are some that are surprisingly similar if not the same.

Shaders

What is used as processing the graphics, the shaders used in the GPU have varied efficiency and power in what they do. The difference between Nvidia CUDA cores and the AMD stream processors is significant. This feature in the GPU core allows the efficient and fast processing of graphics and working in parallel to provide a fast and high frame rate for the GPU. You can’t really compare the two architectures on shader engines, as they have different working methods and so it’s best to compare just the numbers between their own lineups. As you can see Nvidia has double that but the performance isn’t that high.

Frequency

Both with TSMC’s process, they have a good clock rate on both options. From the final specifications, we know the cards have similar boost clocks, but with the game clock settling close by. With a 2.6GHz clock rate similarity, it isn’t the biggest factor between the Ti and 7600, although the base 4060 does have a slower boost clock. But you can always consider an overclocked option, either doing it yourself or with a custom AIB. This does boost the performance by a few FPS here and there.

Video memory

The VRAM of the card is what is utilized as a pixel buffer and so when it comes to higher resolutions they use more capacity and need more speed. This is because they have more and this helps with the FPS on those higher cards. On this level, we don’t expect to see much higher than 1440p performance from them. This cache enables good utilization of the resolutions, and between these series of cards, we see a very similar situation.

With 8GB of GDDR6 and 128-bit memory, we can expect the same kind of resolution targeting. Although with two models of the 4060 Ti, we can expect the 16GB model to offer improved performance. But the bandwidth is the same between the two choices, with 288 GB/s and a 128-bit bus. It means the texture loading can be a trouble as quality improves in general. This is much more the case for the 4060 which drops the clock to 17Gbps and 272 GB/s

TGP/TDP

Total board power is how much power the GPUs will take to run at maximum. These new ones tend to be more efficient than the previous generation RTX and Radeon cards. The 4060 Ti has a rating of 160/165W, so not too high if it is able to bring performance, not running too hot or with a lot of power. Whilst the RX 7600 has a TDP of 165W, with the non-Ti just at 115W. This shows the upper cards have similar ratings, but benchmarks do reveal that the RTX 4060 Ti is marginally more power efficient and can run cooler – though the temperature does depend on the GPU’s cooling solution along with external cooling in the build. Yet for the 4060 we still have to wait and see until its full release.

AMD’s GPU is the one with the big price advantage here. With an MSRP of $269 at launch, the Navi 33 GPU is a much better price point for the 1080p performance it aims for. It comes with a price of $130 lower than the 3060 Ti which is set to $399 and still $30 more than the newer 4060 which comes with a $299 price point.

Considering that the RX 7600 also dropped in price ahead of the 4060 launch, it could be possible that the AMD card is more likely to receive price drops in the future too. AMD cards are often seen as the more cost-effective option, though we’ll have to wait and see how this pans out. Deals like this make it a much easier choice for those on a budget especially as we look to the performance.

Techspot’s review of the 4060 gives us an overview of the performance of all these cards. There we see at 1080p the 7600 average 88FPS, with the 4060 getting 91, and the 4060 Ti 8GB at 111 FPS in a 15-game average. At 1440p this changes to the 7600 leading the 4060 at 62 compared to 61, with the Ti option at 74. The lower options don’t get a 4k benchmark, but on its own, the Ti achieves 38 FPS on average, which goes to show none of them are them are ideal.

Performance is perhaps one of the most important factors when picking out a graphics card, especially on a budget. For 1080p, all of these cards are a fantastic option. If you want to head up to 1440p, the 4060 Ti is the better choice, especially thanks to DLSS performance-boosting framerates in compatible games. As the lower two just about scrape to the 60 mark, you will be able to improve that with setting adjustments.

Final thoughts

The announcement of these graphics cards happened at the end of May, just before Computex, which is interesting timing. And with the news of AMD’s confusion on pricing so late it is an interesting time. But now they are out you can make an informed decision. But it seems as though for a 25% uplift performance, it’s not worth the 48% higher price than the 4060 Ti demands. It might only be worth it if you consider the ray tracing and encoding performance to be worth it as those are better on Nvidia hardware. But still, it’s a high price tag for it.

However, both of these are easily outperformed by some of the previous generations’ cards, but with their lower pricing, they are more appealing. And the RTX 4060 added to the mix might be a good alternative too, depending on how it performs. As with a good pricing not too far off the 7600, it means you can get a good value for it. In fact, the review does show that the cost per frame is favorable to the AMD GPU as Nvidia’s option.
