So, is the Samsung Galaxy S23 5G? The new Galaxy smartphone has been released, so we now know everything about its specs, and yes, all variants of the S23 do come with 5G.

These days, 5G is an expected feature in modern, especially flagship smartphones. Even last year’s Samsung Galaxy S22 was a 5G device, so, the it’s not surprise the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 will be a 5G supported device.

What is 5G?

5G is the 5th Generation mobile network technology, which promises to have a latency at least 12 times lower than 4G connections, plus higher download speeds, which will eventually reach up to eventually up to 10 gigabits per second.

5G is regarded by many as the current revolutionary standard, and why not! It is the next giant leap in consumer technology—a significant upgrade over the 4G LTE. Most countries have already set up 5G services, so having a 5G Galaxy phone will be advantageous.

However, the change from 4G to 5G wasn’t easy. It was a slow, tedious process, which didn’t happen overnight. The process was especially difficult for the network providers, as it required significant money and time to upgrade the existing towers and add new ones. In contrast, smartphone manufacturers had to release devices capable of connecting to this new 5G network without any issues, such as battery drain or overheating. Initially, things were bumpy. But it’s getting better with every passing day.

Does 5G use more battery on the S23?

When the 5G network becomes much more widespread, it should actually use less battery life, as it takes less power for it to transmit the same information.

However, currently 5G has relatively limited coverage, so your phone will likely use up more battery either trying to find a signal and/or having to also connect to 3G or LTE to compensate.

mmWave 5G vs Sub-6 5G networks

The 5G service has two different networks. The mmWave 5G and Sub-6 5G. These services are different in terms of range and speed. The previous Galaxy S22 supported both 5G networks. Many smartphones still skip the mmWave, but the Galaxy S23 is expected to come with the same as the 5G network has become more established.

The Sub-6 network is only slightly faster than the speed of 4G LTE. But the Sub-6 achieved it without compromising its range. The same cannot be said for the mmWave 5G. mmWave provides remarkable speed at the expanse of its range. If your service provider supports both networks, there’s no need to worry. The Galaxy S23 would choose the best version of 5G automatically to provide the best experience similar to last year’s Galaxy devices.

In the United States, each network provider has given specific names for its 5G services. For example, AT&T’s Sub-6 network is named Normal 5G Service, while mmWave is called the AT&T 5G+. T-Mobile and Verizon have similar trends. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is coming with the support of both of these 5G networks, and it will probably perform even better than last year’s.
