Can you watch TV on PSVR 2? We’re going to be answering this question, and loads more in the run-up to the PSVR 2 release date.

It makes sense too, as the original PSVR had a cinematic mode that allowed you to have you’re own virtual cinema screen to watch Netflix, play normal PS4 games, and pretty much do anything else you’d normally do with the PS4 and a TV.

After the unexpected popularity of the original PSVR and its cinematic mode, we’re unsurprised that so many of you are clamoring to know you if can watch TV on the PSVR 2. So, let’s take a look.

Can you watch TV on PSVR 2?

Yes. yes, you can watch TV on the PSVR 2. However, there are some limitations here. If you’re after terrestrial, old-school TV, then you’re out of luck as the PS5 has no such capacity. It’s worth remembering here that the PSVR 2 is directly powered by the PS5, and has no true connectivity of its own.

However, given the popularity of streaming over terrestrial TV, and the variety of streaming apps available on the PS5, you’re still well-catered to for TV, if not in the traditional sense.

How big is the PSVR 2 cinematic mode screen?

this question is essentially impossible to answer. After all, how do you measure something that doesn’t physically exist? you can’t really. if you can, we aren’t clever enough to figure it out.

However, we can look at the original PSVR and go from there. The original PSVR has a 226-inch virtual screen size. Remember that the VR headset is right up against your eyes, making everything have a far larger apparent size.

This is roughly akin to sitting in the front row of a cinema, albeit without the neck strain that the nutters who like the front row claim they don’t get.

unfortunately, PSVR 2 cinematic mode does have some limitations, with Sony stating that “Content in Cinematic Mode will be displayed in 1920×1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rate. The audio and image will be only displayed on the VR headset and there is no output on the TV side when you are wearing VR headset and playing in Cinematic mode.”.

So, can you watch TV on PSVR 2? Yes, and you get a massive virtual screen to so, but if you’ve got a 4K TV, using the cinematic mode will be a visual downgrade.
