With the PSVR 2 release date approaching at a breakneck pace, many people are tripping over themselves trying to find out about the PSVR 2 and whether it’s a worthwhile investment.

We’ve already covered how the PSVR 2 supports glasses, and now we’re going to talk about audio upgrades. The PSVR 2 comes with earbuds that rather neatly fit into the underside of the headband, however, many consumers might already have a preferred set of headphones that they want to use and there seems to be particular concern about over ear style headphones.

Can you wear over wear headphones with the PSVR 2?

So, can you wear over ear headphones with the PSVR 2? Yes, yes you can. However, there is limited space between the top of the ear and the bottom of the headband, meaning that bulky headphones might be a tight squeeze.

This can be a bit of a problem if the earcups of the headphones in question don’t fit and end up resting on the headband. This compromises the seal, which has a massive knock on effect regarding the audio quality.

However, we’ve tested the PSVR 2 fit with a few different pairs of headphones and it seems that the majority of over ear headphones will work the PSVR 2, unless you’re rocking Sony XB1000s or something similarly thicc. Now, let’s talk about compatibility.

Does the PSVR 2 have an audio jack?

Pleasingly, Sony has included the increasingly rare and correspondingly valued 3.5mm jack on the underside of the rear headband of the PSVR 2. In a world where audio jacks are disappearing from new technology, it’s gratifying to see it appear here.

Anyway, this means that almost any pair of headphones, earbuds, earphones etc will work with the PSVR 2. Additionally, if you use headphones or a headset that connects to the PS5 via USB, these will also work fine during gameplay or content consumption with the PSVR 2.

What headphones can I use with PSVR 2?

During our testing so far, we found that over ear headphones with thin to medium ear cushions work very well with the PSVR 2. Options like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro work perfectly, for example. So, there are options out there, and it’s nice that sony hasn’t locked you into their earbuds or their inevitable audio upgrade down the line.
