You take the PSVR 2 off for a break and realize that the gasket is covered in face grime and the lenses are smudged from when you adjusted it wrong and slapped the scope directly into your eyeballs.

NOW READ: PSVR 2 review

Happily, Sony had the foresight to know that the PSVR 2 would get covered in gamer gunk fairly quickly, so they’ve given some guidelines. This means we can combine official advice from the manufacturer with our own considerable experience with gross gamer stuff to bring our PSVR 2 cleaning guide! We’ll start with the lenses and move on to the other stuff afterward.

Cleaning Lenses

To clean the lenses on your PSVR 2, wipe using a soft and dry cloth that is specially used for cleaning lenses. Avoid using tissues, paper towels, or any other materials that are not intended to clean lenses. This is Sony’s advice, but a more informative step-by-step guide is below.

How to clean PSVR 2 lenses

Step

1

Remove light shield

To get easier access to the lenses, remove the light shield that fills the gap between the scope and the users face. The light shield is sort of stretched over a number of mounting points around the inside of the scope.

Gently stretch the light shield. This will widen the holes making unhooking it easier. Do this going around the edge to unhook each one individually.

Step

2

Extend the scope to get easier access to the lenses

Using the button on the top of the scope on the right-hand-side to pull the scope as far away from the headband as you can.

This will make it easier to get to the lenses,

Step

3

Gently wipe the lenses

Using the same kind of microfiber cleaning cloth you use with glasses.

The lenses kind of refract weirdly, which makes it hard to see where the smudges are. Simply apply medium-soft pressure and go around in a circular motion to remove all the smudges, debris, and other gamer-granules.

You can optionally squirt a bit of glasses cleaning spray onto the cloth before doing this, but be very, very sparing as VR headset lenses are notoriously fragile.

Step

4

Put the PSVR 2 headset back together

To do this, simply follow our steps in reverse.

If you did chose to use glasses cleaning spray. leave the lenses to fully dry for a few minutes before doing this, lest you be greeted by a shot of cleaning chemicals to the eyeballs.

How to clean PSVR 2 light shield

We aren’t exactly sure what to call this bit, but it’s the rubber gasket that you removed to clean the lenses. Luckily, it’s a lot more robust than the lenses, so you needn’t be as careful with this one.

Step

1

Remove the light shield

Same procedure as above. Gently go around the lenght of the light shield and stretch it to remove it from it’s hooks.

We didn’t have any problems, but it feels like it could tear if you pull too hard.

Step

2

Clean the light shield

As we mentioned, the face shield is less fragile than the lenses, so you can go ahead and clean all the scuzz off with a cloth and some warm soapy water.

You can use any cloth you like, but avoid things like paper towels as they tend to leave a load of fluff everywhere.

Step

3

Replace the light shield

For this step, just reverse step 1. It can be quite fiddly. try to avoid touching the lenses as they smudge super easily.

How to Clean PSVR 2 exterior

Luckily, the Exterior of the PSVR 2 is plain old plastic, so we won’t go step-by-step for this. Simply use a cloth and some warm soapy water. However, it’s worth being a bit more ginger around the cameras just in case. Also, wring out all the excess water before wiping so you don’t drown the poor thing.
