PS5 SSD Black Friday

It’s a curious thing, for a console as popular as the PS5 to only launch with 825GB of usable storage. This means that your capacity for saving and loading games themselves is significantly hampered. With many games coming out, it is easy to fill up your storage and run out of space entirely on your PS5, especially if you’re choosing to want to save all of your games or if you’re one of those people who enjoy recording their own gameplay to upload them onto your own YouTube channel or otherwise, it can be difficult to keep on top of your system’s storage, and honestly? It’s super boring and a huge hassle to manage anyway, too.

That’s why Black Friday is the best time to get yourself a PS5-Ready NVMe SSD. We’ve rounded up all of our top picks below.

How do I install an SSD in my PlayStation 5?

The process for installing an SSD into your PS5 is not difficult at all, and you can do it with just a few simple steps. One thing to look out for however is that the PS5 doesn’t have any active cooling for any SSD that you might put inside there. Meaning, that whatever SSD you pick will require a heatsink that fits, lest you become beholden to a thermally throttled PS5 SSD drive, which could potentially hamper your performance. So, this means that the SSDs that you will be actually wanting to purchase are the ones that will net you an additional heatsink. You are able to purchase an aftermarket heatsink if you’ve not already got one, but mounting them to your SSD can be a bit ropey, and again, you will need to ensure that it absolutely works with the size and space allowed for by the Playstation 5 itself.

What SSDs are compatible with the PlayStation 5?

The only SSDs that are compatible with the Playstation 5 are ones that are PCIe Gen 4, meaning that it has a minimum threshold and controller for the speed it can run at. Luckily enough, the Playstation 5 will tell you if you install an incompatible SSD, but it can be very easy to not notice and purchase an older PCIe Gen 3 SSD and have it not work entirely, so buyer beware, know what you are purchasing before you hand your money over.

In addition to this, we’ve got an incredible number of other Black Friday deals that you will be able to take advantage of, so if you’re looking for more things to go alongside your brand-new PS5 SSD, you’re in luck as we’ve got you covered.
