Can you unlock Gouken in Street Fighter 6?

Gouken is one of the many popular characters that appeared in Street Fighter IV alongside Akuma. He was a formidable opponent with many super combos and ultra combos to watch out for. Not only was Gouken a great fighter, but he is also necessary for the story because he is Ryu’s master.

Capcom included many characters both new and old in Street Fighter 6. The developers also switched things around with new game modes where you can make your own avatar and learn from the greatest fighter from the series. Can you learn from Gouken though? Can you unlock Gouken in Street Fighter 6?

Is Gouken in Street Fighter 6?

Unfortunately, if you were hoping to play as Ryu’s master, Gouken, in Street Fighter 6, he is not in the game. Gouken does not make an appearance in Street Fighter 6’s base game. He could, however, be added later on. This has not been confirmed but there are some who believe that Gouken will be added during the year two character pass.

There is already a large roster of characters for you to unlock in the game including the following characters:

• Lily
• Zangief
• Cammy
• JP
• Ryu
• Luke
• Ken
• Marisa
• Manon
• Dee Jay
• E. Honda
• Dhalsim
• Blanka
• Juri
• Kimberley
• Guile
• Chun-li
• Jamie

There are more characters being added in the character pass throughout the year as DLC. Gouken is not part of the character pass either. The following characters are being added throughout the year.

• Rashid
• Aki
• Ed
• Akuma

While many characters did return from previous Street Fighter titles, characters like Dan, Seth, Fei Long, Sakura, and Gen did not come back to the series for this game.

The last time Gouken was a playable character was in Street Fighter 4 where it was a but of an annoyance to unlock him. There were multiple steps that you needed to complete to unlock him such as:

• Complete Arcade Mode with Akuma.
• Unlock Gouken as an opponent and beat him.
• Play through the entire game without losing. It was recommended to play 1-round matches for this.
• Achieve a number of first strike or first attack medals.
  • The number of first attack medals required depended on the round type you played.
• Achieve a number of ultra finishes.
• Achieve a number of perfect win medals.
• Achieve a number of ultra combo finishes and super combo finishes.
• After unlocking Gouken as an opponent, kick his butt to unlock him.

As you can see, there were a lot of necessary conditions to unlock Gouken the last time he appeared as a playable character. If you wanted to Defeat Gouken, you had to put a lot of work in as well since he wasn’t a pushover. You could consider him to be the final boss.

Since Gouken is Ryu’s master, you can thank him for teaching Ryu many of his special moves like the Shoryuken.

Gouken appears later in the series as well. In Street Fighter V, Gouken is seen in one of the movies that play during Ryu’s story. Here, Gouken can be seen teaching Ryu to control the Satsui No Hado within him.
