In a blog post from the 17th of July 2023, Corsair announced that it has reached an agreement to “acquire certain assets” from the company Drop. It does not go into details as to what that entails and seems to not be a complete acquisition and takeover but certainly running as two separate companies benefitting from each other’s business.
Drop was founded in 2011 as Massdrop and sells a range of peripherals and enthusiast products. Specifically from customized DIY keyboards, aftermarket keycaps, and other accessories. These have become some fan favorites in a range of options, especially for DIY design. It also covers audio and other peripherals but certainly, the collaboration it does is a great addition that people are after.

This might be where the partial acquisition might matter. Since Corsair might not have full control of the collaborations it should allow Drop x to continue the products. Such as the Sennheiser audio collaboration should still continue and not just become Corsair products as they’re certainly on a different audio level.
What this partnership could allow is further customization of Corsair peripherals. Such as offering aftermarket keycaps for keyboards, or more colorway options and additions to certain parts that are changeable. Along with the customized brand association with the likes of Lord of the Rings and Marvel.
The CEO of Drop Jef Holove has commented “CORSAIR is the ideal partner to help Drop grow and continue to fulfill its purpose of creating amazing community-driven products”. This would allow the company to expand and help its offering worldwide whilst remaining a separate brand. That means you don’t have to worry about existing products already as they will be still covered by Drop.
