The EKSAtelecom S30 open-ear air conduction wireless headset was one of the many products we got a chance to look at during CES 2024. We were interested in the innovative solution it provided for those looking for a headset they could use in the working environment that eliminates some of the drawbacks of an enclosed-ear headset. Typically you either get great noise-canceling headphones that are completely over ear, or more slimline models that just don’t cut it in terms of noise-reduction and sound quality, but the EKSA 30 manages to excel in both areas.

The product’s Kickstarter has already exceeded its goal of £4,008 and at the time of writing has £39,089 pledged to it (there may still be time to sign up and get involved and get some of the backer benefits depending on when you read this). Read below for more details on the company, the specifications and features of the EKSA S30, plus some other products in the EKSA Telecom range. If you’re at CES 2024 yourself then we’d definitely recommend checking out their booth!

Who are EKSA Telecom?

EKSA are a brand most well known for their gaming headsets, who also make a couple of other peripherals (the odd keyboard and headset stand etc.).

ESKA Telecom is a more recent subsidiary of the group who specialise in non-gaming products, specifically they produce headphones aimed at professionals of various types: from office workers to truck drivers. These offer more advanced noise cancelling tech than you’d find in your typical gaming headset.

This is EKSA Telecom’s first time exhibiting at CES and we look forward to seeing what new products they have in store in the future as it looks like they’re carving themselves a nice little niche in the market.

EKSA S30 features

The Eksa S30 over ear headphones are designed with call centre workers, warehouse workers, truck drivers, or general office employees but are versatile enough for a variety of working environments. They use targeted unit speakers to direct sound more effectively inside your ear, using air conduction rather than bone conduction. Even though your ear is not enclosed, this effectively cut out a huge amount of background noise. TubeBass technology also gives rich bassy tones to the audio, making it great for listening to music as well as for voice calls.

The Open-Ear comfort technology of the S30 means you can avoid the potential health and hygiene issues associated with in-ear headphones (making it a more easily shared device) plus the potential discomfort, as well as the cumbersome, blocky nature of over-ear models.  It also removes the need for you take your headset off every time you end a call to hear what’s going on around you, as you would with over-ear models, as you can simply turn off the noise-cancelation features or end a call to hear what’s going on around you unimpeded. This is much better for workers who are always on the move.

In terms of the microphones, there are four in-built mics, two of them pickup mics, the other noise-canceling mics in a dual setup on either side of your head when wearing them, which creatives an ‘Adaptive Beamforming effect’ to improve sound quality, even in noisy environments. This VoicePure ENC noise canceling tech is rated up to 54db and cuts up to 99% of background noise out, ESKA claim.

The 30m/99ft wireless range is very impressive, allowing you to easily wander some distance away from the device your headset is connected to, further enhancing flexibility of use. The IPX5 waterproof rating means it’s resistant to light rain, though it won’t survive being submerged in water.

The battery is good for up to 9 hours of consistent talking time or 16 hours of solid listening time, which should be good for an average 70+ hours of working time all told, only requiring 2 hours to achieve full charge.

The other specs of the S30 are listed below for you to take a look at. The company plans on adding more color options to the model in the future, and is already working on the next generation fo upgrades to the device with additional features, so watch this space!

Other EKSA products and future plans

If you’re looking for something a bit more affordable and don’t mind an over-ear design, then ESKA also do other products that might better suit your needs.
