A man on YouTube who calls himself Basically Homeless has decided to manufacture a mini V8-powered gaming PC. Just in case you ever wanted the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning when gaming. I hope it goes without saying that you shouldn’t try this at home. Here it is, a V8-powered PC.

This is Basically Homeless on YouTube, he is the brain behind the operation. As insane as this sounds it is incredibly impressive. Not only does a PC need to be built but there also needs to be a custom frame or mounting solution for the engine, not to mention the v8 engine itself.

How was this accomplished? Well, I’m no electrician but it turns out that if you spin an electric motor it outputs electricity instead of being hooked up and using electricity to spin something, it can be spun to output electricity.

All that’s left then is to hook up a full bridge rectifier to convert the current to DC, then a buck converter to level the current at 24 volts DC. Then the whole assembly needs to be connected to an automotive power supply that can accept 24 volts DC and output the power needed for the PC.

Speaking of which, what PC is Basically Homeless running?

The PC components that are being powered by a mini V8

As it turns out, there are a fair few hefty components to this PC build. Basically Homeless chose the following PC components for this project:

  • Asrock Steel legend X670E
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Lian Li Galahad 360mm
  • G.skill Trident Z @ 6000 MHz DDR5 16GB
  • Samsung 990 Pro
  • Sapphire Nitro 7900 XTX
  • Fractal North

Together, Basically Homeless, with the help of an adapted automotive power supply, managed to power this PC, despite it requiring around 700W under load. Granted, he did need the help of some Nitrous Oxide.

I’ll never get tired of the ingenuity and creativity of these content creators on youtube.
