Update: Virgin Media went down initially this morning before being fixed. Despite this, reports are showing that Virgin Media went down again across the UK, with users being blocked from popular websites

The story this morning saw users of the ISP wake up, or those that stayed up late into the nightrun into several access issues on the internet. And so we look to see is Virgin Media down as even some of us have been having trouble with the broadband throughout the day.

We can confirm that Virgin Media was down this morning. Looking at Down Detector, we can see trouble starting just before 2 am on the 4th of April. Even with a dip later on, at 6:30 am the spike returns, with over 25,000 users saying they are having issues with the ISP and no internet.

Earlier today wen investigating, we only had issues with certain websites. The likes of Twitter, or DownDetector were not accessible. Those sites are handy for checking if the service is down, as even the Virgin Media website and status checker is inaccessible even when not on their connection.

When will Virgin Media be back up?

Engineers quickly fixed the issues this morning, however, it looks as though the popular ISP is down again.

The previous fix took over two hours since the reports started, so it might take around the same time. So we could expect some resolved in the coming hours. However, if it is a bigger problem with the network, it could take even more time.

User reactions

Virgin Media is one of the better ways to get fiber or gigabit internet where you live. As they run their cables it can reach a different community that might not have the reach of the main supplier of BT or other companies expanding the faster internet.

So with that you also get higher pricing to get that line to you, and as such users have been giving good reactions over on Twitter. With over 1000 tweets on the topic, there is plenty of checking on the issues but also memes on the topic.

Only as of 8:20 am has there been any communication from Virgin Media. With a tweet saying there is an issue and it should be resolved soon. The standard response but we hope it doesn’t take too long.
