Steam doesn’t come to mind when you think about companies that sell hoodies, t-shirts, and other miscellaneous apparel, but it did. It’s no surprise that you didn’t know about it, because not a lot of people did. Valve had a store you didn’t know about, but unfortunately for you, it has just closed down.
Valve had a merchandise store – but it’s just closed down
Valve Store was a storefront owned but not operated by Valve that not many people knew much about, I for one just learned about the Valve Store very recently. But I wish I did sooner. The Valve Store is run by ForFansByFans and had existed since 2005.
A user by the name of u/YourStepBro1 on Reddit (not linking because it’s NSFW) posted this on Reddit captioned “Goodbye.. we’ll miss you..
The image points to the now-closed-down Valve Store.
Its most likely downfall was its serious lack of popularity, presumably ( we don’t have any data) but judging by the number of people in the comments, myself included, didn’t even know the store existed.
Maybe if the store was advertised within Steam on the store page then the Valve Store would have gotten more traffic, who knows. Nothing can be done now.
The Valve Store opened its virtual doors in 2005 but has now made the difficult decision to close them, the last day anyone could place an order was the 31st of July 2023.
Scalped items have already appeared online, with the Red Spycrab running up £159, I don’t know about you, but crabs are well worth the money. Well, I’m assuming it’s scalped, because if the Spycrab normally costs £159 on the Valve Store then no wonder it failed.
According to the WayBackMachine The Spycrab was only $20, so yes, this is a massive Scalp.
That being said, I wish I knew about the Valve Store sooner, I’d have far less money in the bank and far more plushy crabs than I already do.
