It’s only been a few days since the PSVR 2 release and already there are issues, so, here’s how to fix PSVR 2 controller X and R2 buttons.

After a pretty positive launch reception and almost universally positive reviews, some issues are beginning to emerge. We’ve already covered how to stop PSVR 2 motion sickness, and now we’re going to try to help out with the X and R2 button issues on the PSVR 2 controllers.

Yet again, we thank Reddit, specifically, for the post made by u/HoodieTheCat78 on the PSVR 2 subreddit where the community is banding together to swap tips and fixes.

It seems like there are multiple fixes, with differing levels of efficacy. This means that there’s no single solution that seems to be working for everyone. So, when it comes to how to fix PSVR 2 controller X and R2 buttons, you might have to try a few of the following fixes.

How to fix PSVR 2 controller X and R2 buttons: Best solutions

Again, we thank the PSVR community on Reddit for sourcing all these tips and fixes for us, so credit goes to everyone in this post. With that said, here are all the fixes that they’ve found so far.

Wait until you’re in-game to sync the PSVR 2 controllers

There one that we’ve seen be most reliably effective is to simply wait until you’re in-game before syncing the PSVR 2 controllers. Here’s how:

  1. Start up the PS5 and the PSVR 2 headset. However, do not touch the PSVR 2 controllers yet.
  2. Use the regular PS5 DualSense Edge controller to start up the game in question.
  3. once the game is fully loaded up, press the PS button on each controller to sync them.

From what we can tell, this is the solution that works for the highest number of people, however, there are more tricks you can try if this hasn’t worked.

Factory reset the controllers

if you turn the controllers over, you’ll see a tiny hole next to the R2 button. Jamming a pin, paperclip, or ideally a SIM removal tool in here will reset the controllers to factory-new. This means that you can re-sync them like you did the first time.

The good old ‘turn it off and on again’

Chances are you’ve probably already tried this one, but if it’s slipped your mind, hold the PS button on one of the PSVR 2 controllers and use the mini menu to turn it off. Repeat this with the other controller, then turn them both on again.

How to fix PSVR 2 controller X and R2 buttons: other methods.

Crowd-sourcing some other solutions here, some of which have made us giggle, especially titling one of the fixes ‘PURGE THE CORRUPTION’. Anyway, here’s a list of what people on the aforementioned post have found to work:

  • Turn force feedback off and on again (This can be done in controller settings)
  • Mash the buttons. You’ve almost certainly tried this, probably out of frustration than anything else. Regardless, this can ‘wake up’ the buttons in question.
  • Remap the buttons, then reset them to default. This one makes us think it’s a software issue rather than hardware. Go into the controller settings and set the affected buttons to another inputs, give em a slap, then set them back to the default mapping.

For a full list of fixes, we recommend consulting the PSVR subreddit post, which can be found here. If none of the solutions here have worked, take a dive into the comments section, as people are trading tips to help. Good luck with fixing the PSVR 2 controllers, you virtual reality gremlins.
