Intel have confirmed the i9-14900K specs as you can see above. It does have the potential to be a great Intel CPU, however, after looking at the numbers. But how does Intel’s best CPU, the 14900K, compare against the 7950X3D?
As we know, AMD led the multi-core performance sector for many years, whereas Intel prevailed in single-core performance. It seems, however, that over the past few years, we have seen a slight shift. On paper, the 14900K takes the cake for the more powerful processor, it has more cores, with 1/3 of those cores able to boost higher than the max boost on the 7950X3D.
Intel has proven itself with the 12900K, and the 13900K that Intel can handle both multi-core performance, and have single, per-core performance in the bag too. But AMD isn’t going to take that lying down. The X3D component of the 7950X3D allows some games to take advantage of the CPU’s super fast stacked 3D v-cache. This means the AMD CPU will be able to gain an impressive edge in some games. But will it be enough to beat the 14900K?
14900K vs 7950X3D price
Since the Intel Core i9-14900K has been listed on Amazon, the pricing for it has been confirmed. As below:
As you can see, the 7950X price has dropped from its launch price to match the i9-14900K. Still, we believe that the 14900K is a clear winner here based on the specs and likely performance.
14900K vs 7950X3D performance
As our CPU specialist Mr Jack Howarth found in his benchmarking of the new processor in our in-depth Intel Core i9-14900K review, the new processor performs about 4-6% better than the previous generation i9-13900K did. In games at least this means that the 14900K has a slight edge in performance over the 7950X3D in certain games, though they more or less perform en par in most titles. Outside of gaming however, the 14900K comes out around 5% ahead.
14900K vs 7950X3D Final Word
This has been our comparison between the 14900K vs 7950X3D. As we get more performance data to answer the “AMD or Intel” question, we’ll be updating this page accordingly. Overall the 14900K is more powerful on paper an in non-gaming scenarios, but the AMD’s 7950X3D, with its X3D component, performas similarly in most games. In short: the new 14th-generation Intel CPUs don’t appear significantly different from the previous generation.
