COD: Warzone is a popular battle royal available on PC and console. The original was released in 2020, but we now have Warzone 2.0 as the latest iteration of the game.

If you’re looking to experience the fast-paced combat, intense action, and rich atmosphere the Warzone has to offer, you’ll need a powerful CPU capable of running it at high settings and a steady framerate that matches your monitor’s refresh rate.

Processors from Intel’s Core i7 lineup are some of the very best we have for gaming today. Is Intel i7 good for Warzone? Let’s find out.

What are the CPU requirements for Warzone?

Activision has released a comprehensive page of system requirements for both Warzone and Warzone 2. The recommended CPU differs based on the settings you’re looking to play at.

I’ll summarize things here for the sake of brevity, but if you want a detailed overview, you can check out the system requirements for Warzone here and the system requirements for Warzone 2 here

The key thing to note here is that CPU requirement varies with your target FPS. An older, not-so-powerful processor, such as a basic i5 quad core, would be good enough for 60FPS. But the thing is, Warzone is a highly competitive shooter, and games of its nature are best played at a high framerate.

Playing at 144FPS, for example, gives you an inherent advantage over those playing at 60FPS since you’ll have faster reaction times.

For Warzone:

  • Activision recommends you equip yourself with an Intel i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 1800X for competitive, high FPS gameplay.
  • If you’re interested in 4K Ray-Tracing at max settings, the recommendation is bumped up to an Intel i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 2700X.

For Warzone 2:

  • The CPU requirement for competitive settings is the same: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 1800X.
  • However, for max settings with Ray-Tracing at 4K, requirements are bumped up a bit further: Intel Core i9-9900K or AMD Ryzen 9 3900X.

As you can probably tell, these are fairly powerful processors we’re dealing with.

Is Intel Core i7 good for Warzone?

To tell you right off the bat, Intel Core i7 CPUs are good for Warzone, whether you’re playing the first or the second iteration of the game – But the generation matters.

As long as you’re sticking to a Core i7 released within the last few years (10th generation and above), you meet the requirements to play Warzone at the very highest settings.

The 10th generation Core i7-10700K is stronger than the dev-recommended i9-9900K, so that’s the minimum you can go for in the Core i7 lineup if you’re looking to enjoy Warzone at the best settings.

Core i7 processors generation 10 and below will give you a hard time trying to run the game at a high FPS. Instead of getting an older i7, consider getting a newer Core i5 instead.

Which Intel i7 processor is the best for Warzone?

The specific Core i7 processor we recommend for Warzone is the 13700K. As mentioned earlier, you can go all the way down to the 10700K and still be above the requirements for high FPS gameplay at 4K resolution and max settings in both iterations of the game.

However, the 13700K is still your best option from a performance standpoint and will yield some benefit if you intend to play the game with FPS uncapped.
