The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X belongs to the Ryzen 7000 series of CPUs, and currently, it’s at the bottom of the pile. That does not, however, mean that it’s bad in any way. But with that being said, is Ryzen 5 7600X good?

Now read: Why you should buy the 7600X for gaming

The 7600X is the best when it comes to efficiency and power consumption. But how does it perform when it comes to processing power? We had the luxury of testing one before launch, and here’s what we discovered.

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X specs

Before we jump into the performance of the Ryzen 5 7600X, it’s vital to outline what sort of specifications we’re working with.

The specifications of the 7600X are as follows.

  • Cores: 6
  • Threads: 12
  • Base clock speed: 4.7GHz
  • Boost clock speed: 5.3GHz
  • L2 Cache: 6MB
  • L3 Cache: 32MB
  • TDP: 105W
  • Socket: AM5
  • iGPU: RDNA 2 based Radeon Graphics

Is Ryzen 5 7600X good

The 7600X’s performance is far better than even we expected. Whilst every CPU in the Ryzen 7000 series is exciting in its own right, we think the 7600X takes the cake.

We performed both synthetic and real-world benchmarks with the 7600X using a high-end system to not reach a GPU bottleneck in games.

The test system is comprised of the following.

  • Ryzen 5 7600X
  • ASUS ROG RYUJIN ii 360 CPU cooler
  • ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme
  • Gskill Trident Z5 NEO DDR5 @ 6000MHz
  • MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 3080
  • Fractal Design ION+ 860W
  • Samsung 860 Evo

Ryzen 5 7600X benchmark results

The Ryzen 5 7600X scored well in both real-world and synthetic benchmarks making it an ideal CPU for those gamers on a budget.

Synthetic Benchmarks Ryzen 5 7600X review
As you can see, the 7600X dominates the 5600X, its predecessor, in both single and multi-core workloads. This is what a performance improvement looks like.

Now on to the gaming benchmarks.

Gaming Performance Ryzen 5 7600X review

As you can see, yet again the 7600X dominates the 5600X in all games it was tasted on. The only game that came even close was GTA V and we hit a hard cap here thanks to engine limitations. The 7600X is truly a powerful CPU for the price. But there is a downside.

Is Ryzen 5 7600X good: Upgrade cost

The Ryzen 5 7600X may be within a certain budget, but the motherboard it needs certainly isn’t. The AM5 motherboards and DDR5 memory are both incredibly expensive right now, and since you don’t already have any of these coming from AM4, you HAVE to buy these to support the latest 7000 series CPUs.

That’s a massive downside for the 7600X, but that doesn’t raw away from how powerful the little processor is. The iGPU performance is certainly good too, considering the fact it only has 2 CUs or Compute Units.

Final Word

The 7600X is a fantastic CPU if you can afford to front the money to upgrade your platform to AM5. This is why Intel is a more desirable platform right now, there’s no need to upgrade from 600 series to 700 series motherboards to accommodate the new Raptor Lake CPUs.

However, everyone has to upgrade some time, and once the price of the platform drops significantly, the 7600X will be one hell of a CPU to contend with.
