Baldur’s Gate 3 – Can you customize companions?

There is a bit of a mixed answer here. You can customize certain things about your companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. The companions you bring with you are origin characters. This means that you can’t change their race or class at any point. So the Tiefling character will remain a Tiefling and the Githyanki will remain a Githyanki.

While you cannot change many things about these companions, you can choose how they level up. For instance, you can choose what weapons and armor they use to fit your playstyle and also what skills they take.

You can also change party members to better fit how you play the game as well. If you want more rogues, you can simply take on another rogue member.

There are 10 companions available in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Jaheira
  • Minsc
  • Halsin
  • Minthara
  • Karlach
  • Wyll
  • Lae’Zel
  • Gale
  • Shadowheart
  • Astarion

If you really want to alter the appearance of the characters, you can do so with mods. Mods are available that change the look of the characters and update them. There is also a trick you can perform to play as multiple custom characters, but this has a high chance of hurting your game and causing it to crash.
