EA Sports FC 24 is the continuation of the FIFA franchise, just without the classic moniker. The franchise has always been widely available on a lot of different platforms to create as vast a player base as possible. That’s expected to be true of the 2024 version, but gaming is changing.

Next-gen consoles are slowly taking over and rendering older ones obsolete. Will EA Sports FC 24 succumb to that, or will they hold out as one of the last new games to come to those last-gen platforms?

Is EA Sports FC 24 a next-gen exclusive?

No, EA Sports FC 24 is not next-gen exclusive. It is available on both next and last-gen consoles. For now, EA is not interested in making games solely for one type of console. They’ve continued developing, albeit slightly different games, for both types. That takes extra work, so they are clearly devoted to their community.

A day is coming when the EA FC franchise, and other sports games, will not be on last-gen consoles. Next-gen is slowly phasing them out, as some game developers have already begun eschewing them (like Starfield for Xbox and Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation). For sports games like EA Sports FC 24, that day is not today. Nevertheless, it is coming soon.

Gaming is constantly moving forward, and it’s only reasonable for older and less powerful platforms to get left behind. For now, EA wants to keep as wide an audience as possible so they’re including PlayStation 4 and Xbox Ones.

However, the next-gen consoles do come with a few key features. Enhanced gameplay, great experiences, smarter AI, and stronger FieldSENSE are on next-gen but will not be present on an Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

They also have a cross play and cross-progression, so PlayStation 5 fans can play with PC gamers and they can pick up the game on different platforms. Ultimate Team (FUT), Career Mode, and all leagues such as the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and more on next and last-gen editions of the game.

Both the Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition, with cover star Erling Haaland of Manchester City, are available on next-gen as well as last-gen game platforms. The official release date for all of these versions on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC is in September, with a brief early access period.
