The ever-popular Final Fantasy franchise has plenty for fans to explore with the Final Fantasy 14 game and its many expansions. Though it’s understandable that many fans first play the Free Trial, they will soon encounter various restrictions. Due to these restrictions, Free Trial players cannot join a Free Company or obtain retainers. 

So, you’ve been seeing gameplay of the dungeons and various classes, such as Red Mage, Reaper, and Samurai, and might be excited to learn more about Final Fantasy 14’s expansions. This guide will detail whether the Final Fantasy 14 expansions are free.

Are the Final Fantasy XIV expansions free?

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV has a plethora of expansions, each with its own story to tell. As a result, many fans of the popular franchise are curious to learn whether the FFXIV expansions are free. Unfortunately, the Final Fantasy 14 expansions are not free; you must purchase them. 

Thankfully, you will not have to purchase them separately. Buying Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker for $39.99 will include all previous expansions, such as Shadowbringers, Stormblood, and Heavensward. 

However, you must first purchase the base game A Realm Reborn or the Starter Edition for $19.99 to play the expansion content. Please note you must register the base game separately before your subscription to Endlwalker. 

You can also purchase the Complete Edition of Final Fantasy XIV for $59.99. It will include the base game A Realm Reborn, the first expansion of Heavensward, and all currently released expansions. Before you purchase the Starter Edition, you can take part in the Free Trial, which will include A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. Once you have learned more about the game, you can purchase the expansions, which will have more content and an increased level cap. With these expansions, you will also get freebies such as mounts or access to new gear.
