There are many mechanics in Final Fantasy 16 that you can take advantage of. Since you will be dealing with combat a lot in the game, you will need to learn all of these mechanics and abilities so you can easily stagger and defeat foes.

One of the mechanics you can take advantage of is the Punish feature. This isn’t an ability, but it is a mechanic that Clive can use to deal a lot of damage to an enemy. Perform this maneuver enough times and you can even get the Punisher trophy.

Be sure to practice using this mechanic in training mode. It is important to get it down since many enemies in the world will have a large health pool. This guide will show you how to use Punish in Final Fantasy 16.

How to use punishing techniques and mortal blows in Final Fantasy 16

Punish is a simple maneuver that Clive can use during combat when an enemy falls. Whenever an enemy falls and is vulnerable, rush over to the enemy and use a melee attack to use Punish.

If you use Punish on a foe when they are almost dead, you will instead use a mortal blow. Mortal blows will automatically finish an enemy off.

To quickly knock a foe down, you can use various abilities like Lunge, Deadly Embrace, Rook’s Gambit, Wicked Wheel, and shift strike. As soon as you see an enemy fall, rush them to perform Punish. If you are too late, you will perform a basic melee attack.

Be sure to avoid enemy attacks in combat with precision dodges. Doing so will allow you to easily break an enemy’s will gauge and stagger them as well as topple them.

Keep in mind that certain enemies like bosses and minibosses cannot be damaged using Punish and mortal blows. They are too big and will ultimately be easier to stagger. Notorious Marks cannot be punished either.
