Fortnite was created by Epic Games years ago and has since become one of the most popular battle royale games that you can play. The game has grown so popular that it has seen crossovers with popular franchises, obtained different game modes, and has made its way to every platform you can think of.

Just like other battle royale games, Fortnite has in-game purchases, a battle pass, and a special currency called V-Bucks that you can use to get cosmetic items. Is Fortnite’s battle royale free to play though? Is Fortnite free in general?

Is Fortnite free-to-play?

If you are hoping to play Fortnite on your device, you will be happy to know that Fortnite is free. While it originally cost money to play back when it was released in 2017 alongside the Save the World zombie survival mode. The game is now free-to-play along with Fortnite Creative.

This doesn’t mean that everything about the game is free. Like other free-to-play games, Fortnite does have a battle pass you can purchase along with an in-game currency. These are completely optional purchases and aren’t necessary to play the game. V-Bucks are mainly used to purchase in-game items like skins.
