Street Fighter is one of the most well-known fighting games ever made. Created by Capcom, Street Fighter 6 is looking to change the formula of the standard 2D fighting game with new mechanics and special moves.

While there are plenty of new features coming to the game, there are countless returning mechanics such as combos, jumps, kicks, and even blocks. All of these will be mixed with new modern controls to make combat even better. This guide will show you how to block and parry in Street Fighter 6.

How to perform a basic block in Street Fighter 6

To block an opponent’s attack in Street Fighter 6, you will need to tilt the left stick away from your opponent. This will cause you to block. This is just like how the block has been in the classic and arcade titles of the series.

Blocking is the same whether you are playing on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC as long as you are playing with a controller. There are a few changes to the blocking system this time around though.

Thanks to the addition of the Drive Gauge, you now have different abilities you can access such as Drive Impact, Drive Reversal, and Drive Parry. The Drive Gauge is the meter below your health bar. Each time you block, your Drive Gauge will decrease slightly.

If you continuously block, your Drive Bar will deplete and you will enter burnout. This will cause your character to get stunned for a short period of time. Blocking is useful for reducing the damage of many attacks like standard attacks and even a fireball. You cannot block a super, however.

How to parry in Steet Fighter 6

In Street Fighter 6, you can perform a parry and a perfect parry. A parry is similar to a counter that lets you deflect an opponent’s move. To perform a parry, you need to have access to Drive Rush which is the Drive Gauge.

To perform a parry, you must hit the medium punch and medium kick buttons at the same time. Performing this action at the right time will allow you to perform a perfect parry. Parrying has the same frame advantage as blocking.

These actions can be performed by any of the characters on the roster like Chun-Li, Ken, Kimberly, and even your own avatar. Make sure to practice all of the battle maneuvers before entering world tour mode or the fighting grounds.
