Targeting enemies in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the most effective way to ensure you hit them. Wildly swinging your weapon around may land a few hits but you won’t be able to dodge or block oncoming attacks. For those who want to master the art of combat, here’s how to lock on to enemies in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to use lock on in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

You can target or lock on to an enemy in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom by pressing and holding the ZL button on the Nintendo Switch controller. Otherwise known as the Focus button, locking on allows the camera to follow the target, be it an enemy or object, as it moves around the battlefield. You can learn all about fighting by speaking with the Zonai Stewards.

Targeting enemies or targets in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an important part of combat. It works in the same way it did in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While you’re free to fight without locking on to a boss or enemy, you won’t gain as much of a tactical advantage as you would by using the feature.

Your survival is key to saving the land of Hyrule, Rito Village, and Princess Zelda.

Locking onto an enemy allows you to use your shield more effectively. If a creature attacks you, you can attempt to parry the attack by pressing the A button.

Likewise, once you target an enemy, you can pull off a perfect dodge and land a flurry rush attack by flipping backward with X and pressing Y when prompted. If performed successfully, you’ll rush the enemy and be able to get numerous attacks in.

Whether you’re in a temple, shrine, dungeon, or exploring the open world, knowing how to lock on makes all the difference in a fight.
