With a new Dead by Daylight Chapter or update, Behaviour Interactive will allow players to test out new features first. Like any gaming beta, players will be able to test out these new DBD mechanics and feedback and glitches and bugs before the full roll-out of the update. However, Public Test Builds are only available to players on PC, through your Steam library. If you’re interested in getting involved, here’s how to play the latest Dead by Daylight PTB.

How to play Dead by Daylight PTB

  • Log into your Steam account
  • Head to your Library
  • Right click on Dead by Daylight
  • Head to Properties
  • Select the “Betas” tab
  • From the dropdown, select “public-test – External Branch for Public Tests”
How to access DBD PTB

Once selected, you can come out of the Properties menu and you’ll see Dead by Daylight updating in your Downloads. When you open the game back up again, you’ll be playing the current Public Test Build.

If the “public-test – External Branch for Public Tests” option doesn’t appear, this means there is no current PTB available. Come back at a later date to try again!

Current PTB — Roots of Dread

Chapter 24, Roots of Dread, was released via PTB on May 17, 2022. In the new Chapter, you’ll be able to play as a new killer, The Dredge, and a new Survivor, Haddie Kaur, as you explore an all new DBD Realm. The new Roots of Dread map, the first from the new Realm, is called Garden of Joy.
