With the PS4 and Xbox One consoles still having enormous player bases, it’s not unreasonable to ask the question: is Star Wars Jedi Survivor next gen only? For many players, the PS4 and Xbox Series X|S will still feel like the next-gen – even though the consoles are now more available than ever and are nearly three years old. But given that many of the games that release nowadays are still split between the old and new generation consoles, this is a fair question to ask, even for a big game like Jedi Survivor. So, will those on older-generation consoles be able to play as well?
Will Star Wars Jedi Survivor be Next Gen Only?
Cutting to it, the game is indeed ‘next gen’ only, and will only release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game’s predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, was released back in 2019 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and did get a full release on the newer consoles – but it looks like this time EA and Respawn are happy to draw the line in the sand.
There is much to look forward to with the release of Jedi Survivor. We already know that the game is probably not coming to the Switch, but what about the last-gen consoles? Unfortunately, it looks like Star Wars Jedi Survivor will only be released on the next-gen consoles. When looking at the official website, the only console options for the game are Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It seems as though you will need to upgrade your system or build a PC if you want to play the latest Star Wars game.
With the next-gen consoles being more plentiful in 2024, it shouldn’t be too hard for more players to get their hands on one or both consoles. This would end up being the cheaper option since many PCs cost thousands. Like Forspoken, Jedi Survivor also has a pretty high hardware demand if you are playing on PC. Why won’t Jedi Survivor be on old gen consoles?
With the game skipping PS4 and Xbox One (and Switch) totally, it simply looks as though the developers wanted to make use of the latest, and more powerful hardware, in order to make the game they wanted and have it perform at the highest level available in 2024.
