If you’ve noticed, many other popular Battle Royale games out there are actually free to play. But will Call Of Duty Warzone 2 be free to play?

They let any player try them out without any hidden subscriptions. The only purchases that tend to be in the game are usually related to cosmetics like different skins/outfits or a full Battle Pass with all sorts of rewards. 

Therefore, many fans have been wondering if Warzone 2.0 will follow the same philosophy and let you experience the entire game without any cost. 

Is Warzone 2 Going To Be Free?

Without keeping you in too much suspense, Warzone 2.0 will be free-to-play. It wouldn’t really make sense for the game to become paid, especially because the first game was also free-to-play. On top of that, many other competitors, such as Fortnite or Apex Legends, haven’t introduced a price either. Warzone 2.0 being paid would only hurt the game itself.

Activision has stated that the game will be free-to-play multiple times. Therefore, there’s no ambiguity. The first time it was revealed that the game would be free was in a blog post announcing Modern Warfare 2. 

But it’s understandable that many fans would be concerned about Warzone 2.0 being paid because most publishers nowadays try to squeeze in every bit of money they can from their fans. Usually, items similar to loot boxes are one of the biggest culprits whenever publishers get greedy.

That said, remember, despite being technically free, Warzone 2 will still cost you. The game will require a strong internet connection to play, and then if you ever want to buy skins or something to make your character look different, those will cost you COD points (see below.) So, even free doesn’t necessarily mean free.

The game drops on November 16th, 2022, with many new additions, such as better vehicles, a new game engine that will introduce all sorts of physics, an entirely new map, and much more!

How will Warzone 2.0 Make Money if it’s Free?

Many people remain skeptical of free-to-play games, especially Battle Royale games, and constantly wonder how these games make money. Because the game is highly competitive, players definitely wouldn’t mind paying extra to get a tactical advantage over their opponents. This is why it always seems like the developers are missing out on a huge earning opportunity.

However, Warzone 2.0 doesn’t need to rely on such methods of earning money. Despite being a totally free game, the original Warzone made Activision a lot of money through COD Points.

COD Points are a premium currency in the game that can only be acquired through actual money. This currency can later be used to buy items from the store, such as bundles with premium Operators, Blueprints, and battle passes. 

Although the blueprints did provide players with an initial advantage, these can be later unlocked by players without paying a single dime. 

But at its very core, Warzone 2.0 will be completely free. You can play through it without paying anything and actually get good enough to be one of the best players in the game!

Will Warzone 2 Need PS Plus? Will Warzone 2 Need Xbox Live?

As far as we’re aware, Warzone 2 won’t need either PS Plus or Xbox Live. Usually, when it comes to free-to-play games, you don’t need online services to play them since these games really only make money when people can actually play them.

If you need PS Plus or Xbox Live it would create a new barrier in the game actually making money, which Activision-Blizzard likely just wouldn’t allow.
