Jagged Alliance 3 is a tactical turn-based combat game that focuses on hiring mercenaries to fight back against an enemy force known as the Legion. The elected president of Grand Chien has gone missing and it is up to you to get them back.

As you make your way through the game, you will gather troops from the local militia and recruit mercs to help you fight back. When hiring new blood, you will want to pay attention to their stats. Is this medic or mechanic worth the money you will end up paying?

There are many mercs to choose from at the start of the game. Make sure to equip your team with the best weapons or else they won’t stand a chance. Which members should you add to your team first? Here are some of the best starting team mercs in Jagged Alliance 3.

Best Starting Mercs in Jagged Alliance 3

There are plenty of mercs that you can start off with. Here are some of the best to add to your squad at the start of the game:

  1. Steroid
  2. Fox
  3. Livewire
  4. Barry
  5. Raider

There are plenty of other mercs that you can get as well such as Wolf, Fidel, Magic, Reaper, and Vicki. Many of these mercs are not worth getting right away or are unable to be obtained at the start of the game. Let’s go further into each character choice:

Steroid

Steroid makes for a great starting mechanic while also boasting good strength and marksmanship. He is able to fix up everything that needs to be fixed and is able to carry a lot of items if you loot them from the battlefield. He also isn’t bad with a rifle if you designate him as a marksman.

Fox

Fox makes for a great medic at the start of the game. She has the ambidextrous perk which means she can handle a wider variety of tools. She is also on the cheaper end of the mercenary cost. The main downside is that she doesn’t work well with Steroid.

Livewire

Livewire is also a mechanic. If you end up not choosing Steroid, consider Livewire as your backup. With impressive agility and dexterity, Livewire is a good choice. If you prefer not to have strength on your side, she is great at passing wisdom checks and can be your go-to merc for dialogue choices.

Barry

Barry is a great explosives expert to get early in the game. Sure, you can train others to disarm bombs, but it helps to have a true expert on the team. With him, you can lay traps and lure enemies into them, making for a great way to end a fight.

Raider

Raider is a great leader for the team. Thanks to his leadership skill, you can use him to train militia members to protect settlements you capture. This way you won’t need to constantly go back and check on the locals since they can defend themselves.
