The Last Of Us Part 1 Patch Community Reaction

Despite the second hotfix, there were still reports of the game struggling with stability, which is probably what prompted a further hotfix and patch. One gamer wrote on the dedicated The Last of Us PC sub-reddit: “Still crashes after 5 minutes but I haven’t rebuilt my shadercache, still using the one built from the previous version.”

Another added: “Get “Missing file privileges” when I try updating TLOU today. It updated fine yesterday, and all my other steam games update fine. I already tried running steam as admin, but still get the error. I’ve googled and can’t find a quick solution. I’ve never ever seen this before.”

The hotfixes follow a barrage of negative user reviews on on Steam. One such review wrote: “Game is unplayable…Windows and gpu driver up to date. shaders compiled fully beforehand. file integrity done also.my system is as clean and updated as it can be and usually in most games where people have problems I have none or less.”

Naughty Dog responded, writing: “The Last of Us Part I PC players: we’ve heard your concerns, and our team is actively investigating multiple issues you’ve reported. We will continue to update you, but our team is prioritizing updates and will address issues in upcoming patches.”

The game currently at a ‘mixed’ rating on Steam, after initially being hit with a ‘mostly negative’ consensus – a far cry from other successful Sony ports such as God of War.

Naughty Dog previously confirmed the below issues have also been identified and are in the process of being fixed.

  • Loading shaders takes longer than expected
  • Performance and stability is degraded while shaders are loading in the background
  • Older graphics drivers leads to instability and/or graphical problems
  • Game may be unable to boot despite meeting the minimum system requirements
  • A potential memory leak

The developer wrote on their website: “We are working on patches, will provide updates as they become available, and will continue to investigate other reported issues.

“Please keep an eye out on our Support Page as well as the Steam store page for our latest patch notes. If you encounter an issue that is not resolved by our latest patch, you may submit a ticket here.”
