In Major League Baseball there are many tactics to gain an advantage over the opposing team. One way to gain the advantage is to steal bases. When stealing bases an individual runner will sneak their way slowly off the base they’re on and get a chance at getting to the extra base on a play.

Stealing bases is not easy because it requires timing, speed, and sometimes a little bit of luck during the game. In MLB The Show 23 stealing is a part of the baserunning controls.

Most gamers will benefit from learning how to steal bases in MLB The Show. Below, we will break down and show you how to steal bases in MLB The Show 23.

How do you steal bases in MLB The Show 23

You need to press L2 (PlayStation), LT (Xbox), or the L Button to steal a base in MLB The Show 23. Once you press your left shoulder button (or left trigger button) it will tell all the players you’re attempting a steal and your runners will go automatically.

Make sure to pay attention to the pitching mound and pitcher, and time it correctly. If you do it too early, the pitcher can cut you off and get you out. If you do this too late, it will leave you with nowhere to go—resulting in you most likely getting out by the catcher. If you only want a singular player every time to run then you will use your left analog stick to point towards the base you want them to go toward.

This is just in case someone is on first base and third base and you don’t want them both to go.

Before you steal bases, make sure to check the pitcher’s arm strength, arm accuracy, and how fast they can throw the ball. You also need to check your runner’s steal attribute. Your runner may be able to get a good jump to start.

Make sure to understand the situation and the base you want to go to. Determine whether it’s a good choice to steal during that play. You don’t want to go too far. To return back to the base you were on, you need to press R2 (PlayStation), RT (Xbox), or the R Button.
