Unfortunately, you’re going to have quite the wait to get your hands on Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer component. While the campaign becomes available for those with a pre order from 20 October, multiplayer will start to go live on 27 October.

What time it will become available will depend heavily on your platform and region. If you’re on PC, the handy chart above should inform you when you’ll be able to play the game in your country. On consoles, multiplayer will roll out between 4 AM PT and 9 PM PT on the same day.

Remember, you’ll be able to pre load multiplayer before it goes live. You should do this if you want to play as soon as the game launches, or you’ll be stuck waiting for a huge download to finish and install. That doesn’t even take into account any day-1 updates that you might need to apply.

When Does Modern Warfare 2 Singleplayer Go Live?

As we mentioned above, the single-player portion of Modern Warfare 2 is going live before multiplayer will. You can get your hands on the campaign as early as 20 October 2022, assuming that you’ve actually pre ordered the game.

According to Activision, you should be able to start playing the campaign at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET/6 PM BST on 20 October. However, you should try and preload the campaign if possible, since pre loading starts October 19 at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET/6 PM BST.

If you can’t preload, it’s probably going to be a while before you get your chance to enjoy the game. The previous entries have been notorious for being massive games, and with this being a next-gen focused entry, that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.

What about Special Ops?

If you’re interested in the co op focused mode, Special Ops, then you’ll be disappointed to hear that you won’t be able to play that portion of the game until Activision launches multiplayer next week.

Keeping Special Ops back until the multiplayer release might be frustrating to some, but it makes sense. Special Ops is a mode typically seen as existing to help expand on the gameplay to be found in multiplayer and the campaign.

Since it’s supposed to extend the life of the game, giving it out too early would be pointless. On top of that, this mode is focused on co op multiplayer, so having it come out with the main multiplayer modes keeps things nice and neat.
