Gamers on all platforms want to get their hands on the latest iteration of the Mortal Kombat franchise, Mortal Kombat 1. It’s got everything fans love, and more.

As soon as the game releases, there will be a huge roster to choose from, plenty of bloody fatalities, and endless game modes. All of this added together makes it the biggest Mortal Kombat game to date.

But, since it’s so huge, does that mean it’s too much for last generation consoles? Is Mortal Kombat 1 on the last gen? We’re here to let you know all the details.

Can you play Mortal Kombat 1 on last gen?

No, sadly Mortal Kombat 1 is not available on last gen consoles. Mortal Kombat 1 is only available for the current generation of consoles, including:

  • PlayStation
  • Xbox
  • Nintendo Switch
  • PC

That means that if you don’t own any of the newest generation or own a PC, you won’t be able to get your hands on this fighting game from NetherRealm Studios.

Is Mortal Kombat 1 coming to last gen?

As of right now, there is no news on whether Mortal Kombat 1 plans to release on previous gen consoles either at release in September or later on. However, we wouldn’t get our hopes up. Mortal Kombat 1 is meant to be a new generation of the game, and there are many impressive graphics and mechanics that simply don’t work well on last gen. Even the best laptop can fall behind if it’s not prepared.

Just because the game isn’t coming to last gen consoles doesn’t mean there’s nothing to get excited about. Whether you have the Kollector’s Edition, Standard Edition, or Premium Edition, there will be fan-favorite fighters returning including Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Mileena, Smoke, Kung Lao, Raiden, and plenty more.

The Fire God Liu Kang has seen the universe of Mortal Kombat reimagined, with a new fighting system, new dynamics between characters, and more. While the previous events of Mortal Kombat may have been erased, this new era of the iconic franchise is sure to get fans excited. There are new Kameo fighters, Dragon Krystals to earn, a Kombat Pack DLC to get excited for, and that’s just at the release date.

Even though it’s not on last gen, whatever version of the game you decide to pick up will be packed with bloody fun courtesy of the NetherRealm team for all fans and newcomers.
