Blizzard released a trailer for the new update for Overwatch 2, titled Invasion, promising new game modes, including story missions with PvE and cutscenes, at the Xbox Showcase on June 11.

The trailer showed off new game modes, new maps, and the long-awaited story missions that Blizzard has promised since the game was released. Many fans have been looking forward to the story missions, as the original Overwatch was almost entirely PvP minus a few in-game events. More lore in the Overwatch world will give the game a boost, as since the original game players have been asking for it.

Overwatch 2: Invasion is next Overwatch content drop

Invasion will focus on story missions, with Null Sector invading the city of Toronto and rounding up all the omnics that inhabit it. New and old members of the Overwatch forces join together to answer Winston’s call to action seen in the opening cutscene of the original game. The story missions are predicted to focus on saving the city of Toronto from the invading Null Sector force that threatens the world with another human-omnic war.

Overwatch 2 changed the formula of the original Overwatch by adding in new playable heroes like Junker Queen and Sojourn, while also making the teams five players against 5, instead of the original 6v6 style the original game used.

Overwatch 2 was released on October 4, 2022, to a lukewarm reception after fully replacing the original Overwatch on consoles and PC. The game is free-to-play and features a battle pass system for purchase, to unlock skins, sprays, and other cosmetic features.

August 10, 2023, is the official release date for Overwatch 2: Invasion to drop on all platforms Overwatch 2 can be played on, including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

More information is expected to release about the content drop as its release nears, so we’ll keep you updated on all the news for Overwatch 2: Invasion right here.
