Pikmin 4 is one of the Nintendo Switch’s biggest titles and the continuation of the Pikmin franchise. While the gameplay of this title may be similar to its predecessors, there is plenty of additional features to check out like Oatchi and the new Pikmin.

The game will have you searching the vast mysterious planet in search of treasures to restore your spaceship and the whereabouts of Captain Olimar. Pikmin 4 is filled with exploration. As you examine your surroundings, you will need to overcome obstacles and fearsome foes.

Luckily, there are plenty that will help you in the game like the new ice Pikmin. Be sure to check out the demo prior to playing the full game to get a feel for what it’s like to be a member of the Rescue Corps prior to release. With so much exploration, is Pikmin 4 an open-world game?

Pikmin 4 – Is it open world?

Pikmin 4 isn’t open world. Instead, the game features multiple locations for you to explore. When you interact with your crew member at camp, you can choose which map you wish to go explore. Those who play the demo will get access to one map area.

Fans of the game will know that this is the same world type that Pikmin has had in previous games. Rather than going with a traditional open world like Tears of the Kingdom, the series sticks with pre-set maps that you can visit. At the end of each day, you will return to your camp.

In Pikmin 4, there are different versions of the maps as each area can be explored via night expeditions once you unlock the Glow Pikmin. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for castaways as you explore the maps.

There are multiple new Pikmin types in the game that increase the amount of adventure you will have. So far, Blue Pikmin, Red Pikmin, Ice Pikmin, Glow, Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, Purple Pikmin, and White Pikmin have been revealed but there could be more. Pre-order the game so you can get your hands on some nice bonuses.
