There have been many different types of Pikmin that have appeared throughout the lifetime of the series. Everything from simple Red Pikmin to Winged Pikmin have made an appearance. The adventure in Pikmin 4 is so large, that you need even more Pikmin to overcome all the obstacles.
In Pikmin 4, you play as a member of the Rescue Corps as they hunt down various treasures and search for Captain Olimar. You are accompanied by Oatchi, the Rescue Corps companion as well as many Pikmin types.

Pikmin 4 does have rock Pikmin. It was revealed to fans in a trailer that Rock Pikmin will make an appearance in the world. The Overview Trailer shows off the different types of Pikmin with Rock Pikmin appearing in the promotional image. Eagle-eyed fans can also see Rock Pikmin clinging to Oatchi at the end of the trailer.
Rock Pikmin are essential to the series and are great for destroying barriers as well as weighing down objects. These Pikmin are much tougher than others and can knock an enemy down if throw correctly.
Other Pikmin that appeared in the trailer include Red Pikmin, Blue Pikmin, White Pikmin, Purple Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, Ice Pikmin, and Glow Pikmin. There are also plenty of creatures shown off in the trailer that you will need to be on the lookout for.
The Pikmin games have seen many different versions of these pint-sized creatures and Pikmin 4 has them all. This can only mean that Pikmin 4 is a big game with plenty of puzzles, a large world, and obstacles to overcome.
