Depending how far into Pokémon Legends Arceus you are, you may already have “encountered” a Munchlax and have a Pokédex entry for the adorable Snorlax pre-evolution. This is because, as part of the main story, everyone will have a run in with the hungry little fellow when they first speak to Mai. Mai’s partner is a Munchlax, and you’ll even do battle with the two of them. But how do you catch one of your own?
Where does Munchlax spawn in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?
Munchlax can spawn in one of the first locations you’ll visit outside of Jubilife Village, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to catch. It is one of the rarer Pokémon in the wild, so you’ll need to be lucky – and observant – in order to start catching your own Big Eater Pokémon.
According to the Pokedex entry for Munchlax, its only spawn location is in Deertrack Heights in the Obsidian Fieldlands. While it can spawn at any time of day and in any weather, it’s incredibly rare, as the area is usually filled with Kricketot’s. As such, you’ll just need to keep looking around when you travel through Deertrack Heights, and make sure you keep coming back. If you’re desperately in need of Munchlax, then you can force respawns by leaving the area – preferably by going back to Jubilife Village – and returning back to Deertrack Heights. Keep doing this until you find your Munchlax.
Well-known Pokémon data-mining site Serebii has determined the spawn rates of normal Munchlax to be just 8.85% on Deertrack Path during the day and evening, and just 4.64% at night, with Alpha Munchlax spawns coming in at less than 1%.
How to check the Pokédex for Pokémon spawn locations
You can check the spawn locations of any Pokémon in Legends Arceus by going to their Pokédex entry, and clicking ‘A’ until you reach the Pokémon’s Habitat tab. This will tell you not only which of the already discovered regions in which the Pokémon will and won’t spawn, but also which conditions they prefer.
How to evolve Munchlax in Pokémon Legends Arceus
If you also want your very own Snorlax, you might encounter one in the wild, but it – again – will be rare. We at WePC have spotted a larger-than-life Alpha Snorlax in the wild, but unfortunately weren’t strong enough to catch it at that point. But they are out there.
An easier way to add Snorlax to your Pokédex without having to pit your party against the massive Sleeping Pokémon is by evolving your little Munchlax. Munchlax will be able to evolve into Snorlax once your friendship has increased to a high enough level. Increasing your friendship with your Pokémon is pretty simple, and works in the same way as previous Pokémon titles. Simply add Munchlax to your party, journey with it, use it in battles and ask it to gather materials for you. Keep this up, and in no time, you’ll find your Munchlax is ready to evolve.
