The angler Pokémon, Chinchou, was released to the franchise way back in Gen II, in the Gold & Silver mainline games. As such, it’s also been in Pokémon GO for a while, having made its debut back in 2017, less than a year after the game’s release. However, Chinchou remains a fairly rare Pokémon in the AR game, and that’s just in its normal form. So what about its shiny variant?

Is shiny Chinchou in Pokémon GO?

Chinchou’s shiny form is available in Pokémon Go as it was introduced back in April 2020 for the Liverpool Safari Zone event, which actually took place globally and remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as we mentioned, Chinchou is not a very common Pokémon to see in the wild, unless there’s a water-type event. If you’re looking to catch your very own glowing, shiny Chinchou, then you’ll want to keep an eye out for any events it may feature in, or spend your time near watery areas!

Shiny Lanturn – How to evolve shiny Chinchou

If you are lucky enough to catch – or already have – one or two shiny Chinchou, then you can evolve one into a shiny Lanturn as well. All you need to evolve Chinchou in Pokémon GO, shiny or otherwise, is 50 Chinchou candies, so make sure you feed a Pinap Berry to any Chinchou you do see out in the wild!
