Sonic the Hedgehog is returning once again, but not internally, with a new game but a new modern, updated Sonic game. This game will be taking after the older versions of Sonic, like Sonic Mania. At the Summer Game Fest, a short gameplay video was shown of this new game.

The gameplay showed the pixel version of Sonic speeding around his usual turf when all of a sudden, he runs into a 3D-looking world that just makes him look ten times more adorable than before. This game is giving Sonic the Hedgehog a new, updated look to appeal to both new and old players of the game.

Sonic the Hedgehog is back

This new Sonic the Hedgehog game will be released later this year in the Fall and is being advertised as a classic with all-new thrills, and the gameplay seemed to knock it out of the park on appeal to classic fans.

There are hints of the older games in here, from the levels looking familiar to the fluid and fast movement across levels. However, there are features from the newer games, like Amy Rose and going through levels with multiple characters. We saw Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Sonic running around and beating enemies.

Speaking of Amy Rose, she looks a lot younger and doesn’t dress the same way she has—no more red dresses. It seems like she is also taking a new stance on how she looks, but we will know more as the game gets closer to release.

We have seen new moves as well that show us there are great new additions that don’t take away from the spirit of the original. A new move featured in the trailer was Sonic sending a bunch of duplicates at Eggman to beat him.
