Starfield has been one of those games that everyone seems to be hyped for, even gamers who aren’t necessarily into sci-fi video games. We’ve been able to see a lot of gameplay and content for the upcoming game already, and it is set to release just around the corner in September of this year.

This sci-fi game has been called “like Skyrim in space” by Todd Howard, so almost every gamer is looking forward to playing this AAA title just from that comment alone. Players are even more ready after seeing all the different ways to customize spaces, raid other ships, and so on. Some players are even going as far as to call the game a space version of GTA Online, which is odd but cool.

Starfield is able to be played in either the first or third person and features an open world… or universe. Gamers are excited about the game for that exact reason, it shows high-quality gameplay that promises an open-world and customizable experience. However, this is when the age-old question comes up, how will the game run? Something that has become a new standard is stressing over what frame rate per second a game will have.

With Starfield being locked at 30 FPS, it makes people wonder if it will be a good thing or a bad thing.

30 FPS for Starfield can be enjoyable if done correctly

Taking a dive into the technical side of the game and away from the overall style of the game, let’s talk about frame rates. FPS (Frames Per Second) is an important thing for gamers as this is what assures if the graphics will be good or not while playing the games. Having a higher frame rate is definitely always a positive but not always a necessity for each game.

While it may seem that gamers won’t complain about frame rate unless it is terribly bad, 60 FPS has actually become a normal standard for video games now.

60 FPS is beautiful for games, for example, God of War runs at 60 FPS, while Redfall is locked at 30 FPS. Redfall is a difficult game to use as an example because while Spider-Man Remastered is an amazing game that runs at 30 FPS, Redfall chokes on it. Players have complained about the game being locked at 30 FPS, but the developers for Redfall have promised 60 FPS to come, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Sometimes it is promised but isn’t developed.

Redfall, however, struggles for many reasons outside of 60 FPS, while Spider-Man Remastered does a fantastic job on 30 FPS, which shows just how many the frame rates can differ from each game. Needless to say, gamers will want higher frame rates per second because it basically promises a good game while 30 FPS is iffy.

All that being said, yes, 60 FPS is the new standard for video games, but it is very much so possible for gaming developers to approach it correctly and have a very successful game. After the gameplay we’ve seen from many showcases and teasers, it does look like Starfield has a pretty decent chance of succeeding at running well at a 30 FPS cap. So, all in all, Starfield could be okay during at the frame per second on launch.
