The long-awaited cat game, Stray, is almost upon us. We’re here to break down everything we know about the title, when it’s due to be released, how you can play the game for free, and what the Stray release date is.

If you like cats, or even just like cute animals, then this is sure to be exactly the game for you to play when you want to unwind and just play something without stressing out about the choices you make, or being as precise as possible. Just relax, meow, and play this wonderful adventure.

What Is Stray?

Stray is a third-person adventure game in which you play as a cat trying to find his way out of a world filled with robots. It’s up to you to help the little guy find his way back to his family, solve puzzles, complete complex platforming and just make sure he’s safe.

Luckily you’re not alone in this endeavor though, as you have a drone known as B12 that can translate the robots for you and help you store items you find in the world itself.

As you journey through the “detailed, neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly”, you’ll be faced with increasingly complex puzzles, testing you to your very limits and making you think about possible solutions from every single angle.

It’s a game that will no doubt be enticing to a lot of fans of the tiny animal, and it looks to be an incredibly fun journey through the world from the perspective of a cat looking for his family.

As the website for the game states:

“Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city… Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats, and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by curious droids and dangerous creatures. See the world through the eyes of a cat and interact with the environment in playful ways. Be stealthy, nimble, silly, and sometimes as annoying as possible with the strange inhabitants of this mysterious world.”

When Is The Stray Release Date?

The game has been in development since 2015, with the co-founders of BlueTwelve actually being ex-Ubisoft developers. The game was first announced during PlayStation’s Future Of Gaming event in 2020 and was due to launch in 2021. However, it was later pushed back to the COVID-19 pandemic that completely upended the entire world.

It looks like this current release date will be the final one the game is given though, so you can all look forward to playing the game extremely soon.

Stray is currently due for release next month, 19th July 2022. It’ll drop at 5PM BST on that day across both Steam and PS Plus.

What Can You Play The Game On?

Good news for basically everybody when it comes to available platforms, as long as you own a PC or a Sony console.

Stray will be launching on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 thanks to developers BlueTwelve Studio and publishers Annapurna Interactive.

This means that regardless of whether you prefer to play your games on a powerful high-end gaming PC, a gaming laptop or just a standard PlayStation, you’ll still be able to sink your teeth into the wonder of the game.

Is There Any Way To Play The Game For Free?

Very specific question, but yes there is a way to play Stray at no further cost to you.

The new PlayStation Plus consists of three tiers. There’s the standard tier, PlayStation Plus Essential, but if you have PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus Premium you can download Stray at no extra cost.
