As part of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2’s Season 3 update, there are a number of changes coming to the game. In the case of Warzone, this means some pretty significant nerfs in the Sniper Rifle weapon category.

It follows an official COD blog post, which laid out a number of changes coming to Warzone 2 as part of the new season. Pacing, improved movement and traversal and refined combat are the main areas addressed in the recent Warzone 2 community update. However, on closer inspection it’s clear there are some nerfs coming – especially for the Sniper Rifle class.

The blog reads: “After testing in our Saint Patrick’s Day Event, we are adding One-Hit-Down Snipers to create added variety in combat playstyles. Bolt-action snipers equipped with Explosive Ammunition will be able to down enemies with one skill shot. The MCPR-300 has also had Explosive Ammunition added to its progression.

“A number of equipment and killstreak rebalances are coming to this season including a Bomb Drone update, so that it will no longer one-hit-down and can instead support flushing and/or pushing an enemy squad.”

In short, in order to take players down with one shot will require explosive rounds. There are three rifles, then, that will be able to do this: the Intervention, the MCPR and the Victus XMR. Elsewhere, bomb drones, which have fast become one of the OP weapons get a more welcome nerf, instead now playing a secondary role in supports looking to push an enemy squad.

The decision to nerf snipers is an interesting one. Many of them are impaired at long range anyway, so a further nerf seems slightly overkill. Still, with explosive rounds at least you’re more likely to do some damage to vehicles.

Elsewhere, smaller quality of life improvements, for example the inclusion of elevation arrows on the Tac Map, help players better locate the objects. While the “Incoming Killstreak” banner has been raised to sit further from the aiming reticule to offer cleaner sightlines.

The improvements to Warzone 2 come as the team prepare for Warzone Ranked mode – which will be arriving as part of a mid season update.
