The RTX 4080 from NVIDIA was introduced around mid-November. It has received a lot of criticism while providing a modest generation-to-generation performance boost. At the same time, most individuals aren’t willing to shell out more than $1,000 for an 80-class GPU.

Since it was introduced, the price of the RTX 4080 has been steadily dropping. This GPU, which would have cost you $1,913 on November 16 or almost $2000, is currently available in Germany for far less than its MSRP of $1500.

Every GPU sold in Germany is subject to a VAT, bringing the MSRP of this particular model to €1,469. You might wonder how this is meant to be less expensive than MSRP.

Unfortunately, most people didn’t bother to buy an RTX 4080 because we’re no longer in the GPU shortage era. The main reason that many Micro Centers have RTX 4080s on hand was that every newly released GPU would immediately sell out from merchants before being restocked.

The RTX 4080 is increasingly difficult for gamers to purchase as AMD’s RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT with RDNA 3 are coming close to their release every day.

Although it will cost $200 less, the RX 7900 XTX is predicted to perform 10% to 15% better than the RTX 4080. In addition, it has been revealed by various sources that the RTX 4070 Ti will cost no less than $899 at launch. The lower-midrange Ada GPUs do not stand a chance in this situation.

Initial benchmarks indicate that the RTX 4050 (for mobile devices, as least) based on AD107 is only marginally 20–30% faster than the previous generation.

Similar results were observed with the RTX 3050, whose performance was on par with the GTX 1660 Ti/Super. In comparison to the RX 6600 from previous generation RDNA2, the RTX 4050 would be directly behind it if it were hypothetically 30% faster than the RTX 3050.

So it is quite likely to see a drop in price for the 4080. As fewer people buy it the competition should push down the cost to something more competitive.
