Epic Games will soon cut Fortnite support for many devices. The video game is currently available on many platforms, including old and current-generation gaming consoles. Furthermore, it’s available on PCs and Android phones, while iOS users can use cloud gaming services to play it.

Unfortunately, players who are on Andriod 9 (Pie) will lose support for the game very soon. Epic released the v26.30 update on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, announcing this important information. While it’s currently unknown how many players this decision will affect, it’s very likely that at least thousands of players will have to upgrade their devices.

Many Fortnite players may soon lose support and access

Many more Android players will soon lose support, Epic recently announced. With the release of the v28.00 update, Android 9 will lose support for Fortnite. This means that the game will not have great performance on Pie devices and will eventually become unplayable.

Epic Games has filed a lawsuit against both Apple and Google. Because of this, Fortnite is no longer available on Apple’s App Store and Google Play. While Android players can still download the game through its official website, Apple users can only access it by using cloud gaming services, such as GeForce Now.

“Starting with v28.00, players will be required to use OS10 or higher to continue playing Fortnite natively on Android in an officially supported manner. Android OS9 will no longer be officially supported in Fortnite, which means that we will no longer actively ensure that it is compatible with Fortnite, and that the service quality may degrade over time and eventually become unplayable,” Epic clarified in the Blog Post.

Fortunately, players who are unable to upgrade their devices will still be able to keep playing Fortnite through cloud gaming. GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Amazon Luna are all fantastic and can be used to play Fortnite without downloading it.
