Since the early days of Fortnite: Battle Royale, emotes have been integral to the game’s identity. A few years ago, one couldn’t go onto the internet without seeing fans and non-fans alike, recreating the emotes and dances featured in the game. There have even been lawsuits over the dances in Fortnite.

With how iconic emotes and dances have become, they have never been used as an in-game strategy. However, two players may have found a new (and hilarious) strategy to eliminate opponents with just one item and an emote.

Fortnite players eliminate opponents with an invisible hug

In a Reddit post by u/Suspicious_Maybe2045, a video clip is shown of two players preparing for an ambush. Instead of building up a structure or crouching around a corner, these players take a different approach.

First, they use the new Cloak Gauntlets to make themselves invisible while standing in front of the console. Next, they play the hugging emote just in time. When the opponent players arrive and go to interact with the console, they instead accept the invisible hug as it is the same button used to activate emotes and interact with objects.

This catches the opponents off-guard and allows the players from the clip to eliminate them.

The invisible hug-of-death strategy has received praise from many in the community for its humor and deadly capabilities.

u/KawaiiKaiju55 simply stated, “Omg that’s perfect.”

This strategy is great for psychological warfare as well it seems, putting fear into the hearts of your opponents

Reddit user u/General-Dirtbag commented, “I’m hosing down that console before I swipe the card now.”

However, some find this strategy cold-hearted to the lonelier players out there just looking for a connection.

Reddit user u/AsianPotato77 joked, “Nahhhh that’s low-key kinda mean tho they just wanted a hug.”

This strategy is still new and future updates may affect it, but for the time being, it can be a hilarious and effective tactic to pull off on anybody wanting to interact with a console.
