The Steam App, or Steam Authenticator as it sometimes calls itself is experiencing a glitch right now that is rendering the app unusable. Which is not something you want to hear when you’re trying to sign into your Steam account. This new Steam app glitch leaves users locked out of their Steam accounts.

Steam App showing a blank grey screen

This issue is new and was first reported on Reddit on the 23rd of August 2023. It seems as though the Steam app is broken, and it is only displaying a solid blank grey screen when users are attempting to use it.

Below is an example of a broken Steam App on an iOS 16.4 device.

For those of you who do not have Steam Guard enabled via the Steam App, this won’t pose a problem for you, however, like me, I have Steam Guard enabled via the app, and I need to log into my Steam account.

As you know, the Steam App gives you the option to sign in via a QR code that Steam generates for you, handy if you use a password manager on your phone and do not remember it by heart. But, with the Steam App not working, that isn’t an option.

Note that this isn’t every device, some devices, both iOS and Android seem to be fine with running the Steam App. However, it seems that the vast majority of devices are experiencing issues.

There is a workaround to the broken Steam App

It’s not one you’re going to like, especially if you have ultra-secure passwords that consist of a symphony of numbers, capitals, and specials.

If you type in your password, Steam SHOULD send a push notification to your phone that will enable you to allow a login, it did take me a couple of tries to get in though, so sit tight and don’t be afraid to try multiple times.

Eventually, I was able to access my Steam Account. This issue has been present for more than a day at this point so it is very likely that the App team over at Valve is hard at work on a fix for this Steam App glitch.
