After a few weeks of post-data mine speculation as to when the Marvel martial arts superstar would arrive, WePC can now confirm that Shang Chi has been added to the Fortnite item shop rotation as of September 03, 2021.
Who is this Shang Chi character they’ve added to Fortnite?
Created by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin (the latter of which also created Thanos, Drax the Destroyer and Gamora), Shang Chi is Marvel’s master of martial arts. The character can also sense and manipulate chi, a mythical life energy current that passses through the inside and outside of the human body.
Shang Chi was originally a spin-off of licensed pulp villain character Fu Manchu, although Marvel lost the Fu Manchu character rights and started referring to his father as Zheng Zu. In the film adaptation he is instead related to Marvel’s Iron Man villain The Mandarin, also known as Wen Wu.
The Shang Chi character outfit pack release syncs up with the September 03, 2021 release of Marvel Studios’ latest action adventure movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which stars Chinese-Canadian Kim’s Convenience actor Simu Liu in the titular role.
Which version of Shang Chi has been added to Fortnite?
The version of Shang Chi that has been added to Fortnite is based on his latest appearance in the comics universe. It first appeared in a one-shot called ‘The Legend Of Shang-Chi’ by Alyssa Wong, Andie Tong and Rachelle Rosenberg, but has also been seen in the Shang Chi comic book series by Gene Luen Yang, Dike Ruan and Leinil Francis Yu.
Because of that, it doesn’t look much like Simu Liu, but it does fit in better with the rest of the Marvel additions to Fortnite Battle Royale, which are typically based on comics runs anyway.
What’s in the Shang Chi Fortnite set?
Shang Chi’s Fortnite Item Shop outfit set is called Master of Kung Fu. The items are priced as follows:
- Shang Chi Outfit — 1500 vBucks
- Blades of Brother Hand Harvesting Tool (Has 2 Style Options) — 500 vBucks
- Dragon’s Scale Weapon Wrap — 300 vBucks
All of these items would usually cost a total of 2300 vBucks, but can be bought in the Shang Chi Bundle for a reduced price of 1800 vBucks if you want all of it.
How to get Shang Chi
Shang Chi is in the Fortnite Item Shop and needs to be bought with vbucks, which are a cryptocurrency obtained in the Fortnite Battle Pass or exchanged for real world money.
If you want to buy Shang Chi, Master of Kung-Fu or any of the other non-battle pass Marvel outfit skins from the Fortnite Item Shop, they’ll all be in there for at least the next 13 hours.
